Environmental Health Safety Specialist at Cosmos Limited

The EHS Specialist will be responsible for enforcing of safety standards and regulations, compliance to statutory requirements in relation to environment, health and safety (EHS). Additionally, the role holder is responsible for scheduling, coordinating, and measuring effectiveness of training in relation to EHS.

In addition, this role will also spearhead the ISO certification project.

Key responsibilities

• Draft Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), manuals, policies, and programs in relation to health and safety emergency preparedness and response thereafter implement them.
• Act as the advisor to the company on projects, tasks and operation in relation to health and safety and is the secretary to the company Environmental, Health and Safety Committee. Assist employees/departments involved in projects and tasks in the planning, identification and mitigation of risks.
• Conduct periodic work place inspections to cover work areas, equipment, employee habits, etc. with the aim of improving safety standards at the work place Overall compliance – fire drills, inspections, etc.
• Lead in implementation of ISO projects in the company as required.
• Responsible for maintain all safety related files and records, prepare written reports, conduct post-accident investigations, recommend corrective and preventative measures and follow up to ensure implementation meet regulatory requirement.
• Lead incident/accident investigation, root cause analysis processes and prepare required reports
• Create training content, training schedules for new joiners as well as refresher sessions for existing employees in regard to environmental health and safety. Engage all employees in periodic training on minimum standards of safety relevant for each department.
• Manage contractors, waste management……NEMA etc.
• Ensuring compliance with PPE requirements and ensuring employees adhere to all safety and health policies.
• In liaison with the HR, assist in creating an annual training calendar EHS related and measure effectiveness of EHS related trainings.
• To adhere and comply to; all cGMP and GDocP records/data standards, ALCOA principles, and the company code of conduct for data integrity.
• Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science; Occupational Safety and Health or its equivalent.
• Post graduate Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health.
• Added advantage with Nebosh IGC / Diploma – UK.
• At least three (3) years’ experience in the EHS field.
• In-depth knowledge of Kenyan Occupational Health and Safety laws as well as international best practices.
• Experience and knowledge of ISO standards and implementation
