    Field Officer (WASH)

    Key Responsibilities

    • Facilitate the access to P&G water purification materials in cronic and acute emergency context in Western Kenya. (40%)
    • WASH NFI (e.g. POU water treatment products; hygiene materials) procurement, management, logistics, and distribution to an estimated 42 communities and 32 schools across four counties that are classified as chronic emergency needs.
    • Pre-positioning, logistics, and distribution of additional WASH NFI materials for anticipated acute emergency needs (e.g. cholera, typhoid out breaks and flooding/displacement situations).
    • Training and capacity building of community health workers, school leaders, households and other stakeholders on POU and hygiene methods.
    • Post-distribution monitoring to the 10 recipient schools and 14 communities
    • Support in designing contents and methodology for water safety and community hygiene management.Support learning and action approach to shift communities and households to reliant on P&G POU products to longer-term, sustainable water treatment and water safety solutions. (20%)
    • Leverage infrastructure investments to achieve broader governance and water safety/water quality advancements at the county and sub-county level- e.g. support the county to operationalize water safety planning (WSP) guidelines from Kenya WASREB; earmark county investments for water treatment and source protections; trainings and strengthen linkages between WMCs and WRUAs forsource water protection.
    • Continue community score card (CSC) action plan follow-ups and advocacy, advocate and influence water service budgeting and technical support.
    • Facilitating gender, equity, and social inclusion (GESI) integration—e.g. women’s robust participation and decision-making in infrastructure and water treatment activities through CARE’s gender marker and other M&E tools; ensure that women and marginalized groups derive economic benefit from project activities.

    Integrate learning and advocacy components related to project activities (20%)

    • Contribute in the management of data generated from tracking through post distribution monitoring activities involving uptake and use of purifiers of water (PUR sachets).
    • Strengthen government relations through liaising with government structures to enhance coordination of response activities through joint assessments in affected communities, distribution of NFIs including water purifiers, monitoring and reporting

    Support Branding visibility and Communication. (15%)

    • Providing support on project activity branding and visibility in line with communication guidelines ensuring high quality documentation process is adhered to including case studies, photos and videos.

    Other Responsibilities (5%)

    • Perform other project duties as assigned by the supervisor

    Qualifications

    • A Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university/institution in the following areas: environmental health sciences, public health, community health or other relevant field
    • 3 years’ experience working with an INGO or a recognized institution in both development and emergency related programming capacities.
    • Experience in working with communities, county /national government structures and organizations promoting capacity development in water, sanitation and health activities
