Finance Intern at Homeless of Kisumu (HOK)

The Finance Intern will support day-to-day financial and administrative functions at HOK. This role offers hands-on experience in accounting, budgeting, procurement, and financial reporting in a dynamic nonprofit environment. The intern will work closely with the Finance Officer and contribute to the smooth functioning of the organization’s operations.

Key Responsibilities

Finance & Accounting Support

• Assist in the preparation and posting of financial transactions to accounting systems.
• Support bank and cash reconciliations.
• Help maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records and filing systems.
• Prepare payment vouchers, receipts, and other finance documents under supervision.

Budgeting and Reporting

• Assist in the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reports.
• Support expense tracking and analysis of budget variances.
• Participate in internal expenditure reviews for ongoing projects.

Procurement and Asset Management

• Assist with quotations, LPOs, delivery tracking, and payment processing.
• Maintain proper records of organizational assets and inventories.
• Ensure compliance with procurement policies and donor requirements.

Audit and Compliance Support

• Help in organizing audit documentation and responding to audit queries.
• Ensure proper labeling, archiving, and retrieval of finance records.
• Support compliance checks on expenditures and transactions.

Qualifications and Experience

• A recent graduate with a Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, or a related field.
• Sufficient understanding of financial systems and accounting principles.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace; knowledge of accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks, Zoho Books) is an added advantage.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information.
• Good communication and organizational skills.
• Interest in working in the nonprofit or development sector.
