    Fundraising Specialist

    Position Summary

    • HIAS Kenya seeks to recruit a Fundraising specialist with experience on grant writing in the humanitarian sector and/or human rights who will support the Country Office in writing grants, overseeing the prospective and strategic pursuit of donors to obtain funding for HIAS Kenya programs as well as the support of broader organizational initiatives.

    Essential Functions

    • Support HIAS Kenya in conducting a donor mapping exercise and implement the fundraising strategy for HIAS Kenya work.
    • Facilitate the effective coordination of proposal teams, including drafting and managing task lists and provision of clear communication for optimal coordination of overall process.
    • Effectively present programmatic information to donors in the form of letters of interest (LOIs), concept notes, capacity statements, past performance information, and other materials.
    • Provide writing and editing support for key funding opportunities, and support in translating program designs into winning proposals, including researching, drafting and development of technical narrative sections and multiple attachments, and timely submission of the final proposal package.
    • In coordination with the programs and M&E team, ensure proposals are 100% in compliance with donor guidelines, including timely submission of electronic and hard copy versions, per requirements.
    • Support HIAS Kenya in requesting for feedback on proposal submissions, facilitating debriefs for proposal teams, and work to apply lessons learned to continuously improve the quality of future submissions.
    • Support HIAS Kenya in researching funding mechanisms and identify opportunities related to international development donor agendas.
    • Analyze and summarize viable funding opportunities for distribution to relevant technical and field staff, and others as needed.
    • Assist the Country Director and Program Director with setting up donor meetings, making contacts, preparing relevant materials, etc.
    • Support the Country Director and Program teams in ensuring effective donor stewardship through periodic correspondence, identifying opportunities for donor recognition, and appropriate sharing of program information, etc.
    • Manage the donor management database system and the reporting process.
    • Collaborating with Country director, and program managers to send funders newsletters, and to promote on-site tours.
    • Collaborate with the HQ team to ensure strategic alignment and coordinated efforts in fundraising.
    • Support HIAS Kenya’s growth and business development through portfolio diversification that include OECD/DAC donors, USAID and other non-traditional donors to HIAS.
    • Contribute to the identification of potential relevant international and/or local partners (national and international NGOs, academia, CBOs, FBO etc.) to be included in proposals.

    QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

    • Bachelor’s degree in development studies, project management, social sciences and/or relevant field, with a strong preference for international development .
    • Minimum of 3 years’ professional experience, 2 of which there is a demonstrated success in donor relationship cultivation and the development of award-winning proposals, particularly in forced displacement, refugee rights, women’s empowerment and economic inclusion sectors.
    • Experience in grant writing in humanitarian sector and human rights is a must.
    • Demonstrated experience working with individual giving, institutional funders, corporates, private foundations and non-traditional funders.
    • Superior communication and writing skills with demonstrated proposal writing experience that resulted in successful (funded) proposals.
    • Demonstrated experience and ability to effectively research, analyze and disseminate analysis on potential funding opportunities.
    • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
    • Computer skills including word processing (Microsoft Word); spreadsheets (Excel); electronic communication systems (Outlook, Instant Messaging, Skype, etc.), and Salesforce or other similar database systems.
    • Knowledge of Accountability to Affected Populations Framework
    • Knowledge in PSEA and Anti-Fraud.
