Global Safeguarding Lead at CorpsAfrica

Overview of the Position:

• The Global Safeguarding Lead will own CorpsAfrica’s safeguarding strategy and standards organization-wide, and provide technical supervision to a growing network of in-country Safeguarding Officers, ensuring consistent implementation of CorpsAfrica’s existing safeguarding operationalization suite, including annual plans of action, the organizational risk assessment, the training calendar, incident reporting and referral tools, the gender risk matrix, and the Do Not Hire Registry Protocol, across all 11 countries of operation.

Reports to: Chief Operating Officer

Specific Responsibilities:

• Own and continuously strengthen CorpsAfrica’s global safeguarding policy framework, standards, and annual plans of action, grounded in the CorpsAfrica Operating Manual and funder compliance requirements.
• Serve as the organization’s senior point of escalation for safeguarding disclosures and incidents; oversee case management and ensure a survivor-centered response, including management of referral pathways for serious cases.
• Provide technical line management and day-to-day supervision to safeguarding officers across the organization; set shared KPIs, conduct regular check-ins, and review performance.
• Maintain and administer the Do Not Hire Registry Protocol organization-wide, including pre-employment screening for staff, partners, and Volunteers.
• Design and deliver (or oversee delivery of) safeguarding training for staff, volunteers, and Safeguarding Officers, maintaining and refreshing the existing training calendar and materials, and building Officers’ capacity to train locally.
• Own the organizational safeguarding risk assessment and the gender risk matrix; update both annually and after significant incidents or program changes.
• Lead safeguarding due diligence for new country offices, program partners, and vendors.
• Manage safeguarding reporting to the Board of Directors, funders, and relevant parties,, including incident reporting timelines and compliance documentation.
• Represent CorpsAfrica in external safeguarding communities of practice and stay current on PSEA / safeguarding sector standards.
• Manage the safeguarding function’s budget.
• Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in social work, public health, international development, or a related field preferred.
• 7–10+ years of progressive leadership experience in safeguarding, PSEA (Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse), or child/adult protection within international development or humanitarian organizations.
• Demonstrated experience managing a safeguarding function across multiple countries, ideally in Africa.
• Experience directly supervising a distributed, multi-country team.
• Case management and survivor-centered response experience.
• Training design and delivery experience.
• Familiarity with major donor safeguarding compliance frameworks (Mastercard Foundation experience preferred).
• Fluency in English required; French proficiency strongly preferred given CorpsAfrica’s Francophone offices (Morocco, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire).
• Willingness to travel regionally (30–40%).
• Exceptional cross-cultural communication skills, with a patient, service-oriented approach to supporting remote, international teams.
