GRADUATE ENGINEER, ELECTRICAL DESIGN - (KET 6) ONE (1 POSITION) REF: KET/5/1C/40/222-B (02/2025) ON PERMANENT AND PENSIONABLE
Reporting to: Senior Engineer, Electrical Design
Job Purpose
This job is responsible for assisting in all substation and transmission line projects with regards to all electrical engineering-related works of transmission system projects for a reliable, efficient, and effective electricity transmission infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities/Duties/Tasks
- Implementing quality control on matters relating to substations and transmission lines during procurement, design, and commissioning of transmission and substation projects.
- Undertaking the designs and design reviews of transmission lines and substation projects in liaison with other relevant divisions and stakeholders to support the timely delivery of quality transmission system projects.
- Assisting in monitoring the implementation of approved design and specifications during the implementation of substation and transmission line project works.
- Assisting in enhancing the quality of substations and transmission line projects by referring to and adopting relevant/applicable standards/manuals/codes and methodologies during the design of power transmission projects to ensure quality design documents.
- Assisting in implementing technical guidelines and standards/manuals for substation and transmission line project designs and the preparation of bidding documents and requests for design proposals.
- Working with local and international design consultants for stand-alone outsourced design services.
- Assisting in preparing periodic design status reports of projects to the Senior Engineer/Manager, Electrical Design as shall be directed.
- Assisting in reviewing technical substation and transmission line engineering information to be shared with contractors and subcontractors to ensure projects comply with all engineering standards, codes, specifications, and design instructions/requirements.
- Assisting in implementing document control and archiving of approved and as-built design documents and drawings, as well as test reports for transmission line and substation projects.
- Assisting in reviewing consultants’ designs to ensure that their designs conform to company standards and international standards.
- Participating in design interface meetings with consultants and contractors, as required.
- Participating in Factory Acceptance Tests, material testing, and final acceptance of transmission lines and substation projects.
- Participating, supervising, and coordinating site testing and acceptance of all related works of substations and transmission lines.
- Complying with relevant acts including the Energy Act, Procurement Act, Engineers Act, Environmental Act, Health and Safety Act, among others.
Qualifications & Skills Required
- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field from a recognized institution.
- Registered Graduate Engineer with Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK).
- Graduate Member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK).
- A minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience. Having demonstrable experience in substation or transmission line projects setting will be an added advantage.
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL POSITIONS

- Current Clearance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC); and
- Current Report from an approved Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).
