    Physiotherapist

    The position is responsible for managing and supporting the delivery of rehabilitation services, including assessment, treatment planning, and physiotherapy treatment to children with physical and functional disabilities both in the center and in the community, and achieve their highest rehabilitation potential, such as improved life skills, and independence in activities of daily living.

    S/he will train and supervise the work of community outreach workers to continue rehabilitation service delivery at home. At the same time, they support caregivers in caring for children with disabilities, ensuring children are protected and can access basic services.

    The position will promote and ensure the sustainability of rehabilitation services for children with disabilities and advocate the fight to end violence, exploitation, and sexual abuse against children in the community.

    The position reports to the project manager directly with a functional line to Rehabilitation Specialist. It supervises 24 refugee staff in Dadaab and Kakuma refugee camps.

    Main missions (in this framework, your main duties)

    Coordination of outreach and rehabilitation activities:

    • Identification of children with disabilities for surgeries, and post-operative rehabilitation management together with the community outreach workers.
    • In collaboration with community outreach works, conduct mapping out and referral of persons with disabilities for specialized and other related services.
    • Together with the multidisciplinary team and EARCs team conduct physical, functional and sensorial assessments and environmental modifications for children and adults with disabilities.
    • Provide guidance on home-based rehabilitation and social integration to children with disabilities in school and those supported under homebased care and their caregivers
    • Coordinate the recruitment, training and mentorship of new refugee community outreach workers supporting the project.
    • Coordinate the interdisciplinary approach through Rehabilitation Action Plans for rehabilitation services delivery with HI-internal projects and LWF- EARCs.
    • Paticipating in preparations of marking international calendar events
    • Coordinate and promote synergies of rehabilitation work and activities with HI and partners for smooth implementation and better teamwork.
    • Strengthen linkages between HI community workers and technical rehabilitation services at the HI rehabilitation centers, schools and EARCs in liaison with the Camp Based Field Officer for effective day-to-day rehabilitation services delivery at the camp level.

    Capacity building

    • Together with occupational therapist, identify the needs and facilitate training in a participatory manner (theoretical and practical) to community outreach workers on physical and functional disability assessment, treatment planning, basic manual therapy, home and school adaptations, activities of daily living, and preschool activities for children and adults with disabilities.
    • Prepare physiotherapy training plan and materials according to needs identified and submitted for validation in the Regional Technical Unit
    • Provide technical support to community outreach workers through regular mentorship, coaching, and on-the-job training, and encourage peer-to-peer training, ensuring effective utilization of knowledge and skills learned.
    • Provide regular performance reports from the community team in physical and functional rehabilitation activities such as identification, treatment, use of tools, progress monitoring, referral and discharge of cases.

    Promoting quality of services

    • Adhere to quality standards in delivering physical and functional rehabilitation services, capacity building, and environmental accessibility in the school and home setting by ensuring frequent interaction with the Regional Technical Unit of the East African Region.
    • Ensure that the appropriate data collection and management tools are in place and are used correctly on the project, in line with global HI standards, collect and compile project-related data in the relevant database.
    • Provide timely submission of quality technical reports of beneficiaries and community partners on rehabilitation and education-related activities.
    • Contribute to strategy and proposal development related to Rehabilitation activities in the country and the region.
    • Contribute to project monitoring, specifically activity progress indicators, budget and the expected outcomes

    YOUR PROFILE :

    Educational background

    • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Physiotherapy
    • With at least 4 years work experience in a private or public institution
    • Experience delivering community or home-based physiotherapy services
    • Experience working in the refugee camp is an advantage.

    Knowledge and skills

    • Knowledge of Kenya Refugee Response Framework
    • Knowledge of Kenya's primary education system and disability law/policies
    • Knowledge and experience in the assessment, prescription, and delivery of assistive products
    • Knowledge and skills in training design and development, and facilitation
