    Head of Tax

    The Role

    Reporting to the Group Finance & Strategy Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for the tax management for KTDA Holdings, Subsidiaries Companies, KTDA Managed Tea Factory Companies, and Regional Power Companies.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Enforcing compliance with the legal framework, policies, and procedures relating to all tax functions.
    • Responsible for tax risk management across the business
    • Ensuring timely and correct filing of all tax returns for PAYE, VAT, Corporation tax, Withholding taxes, Excise Duty, and Kenya Bureau of Standards Levy.
    • Overseeing Revenue Authority Audits and tax disputes.
    • Responsible for effective partnership with the Kenya Government Agency responsible for tax matters.
    • Managing the VAT and Income Tax refund process and payments.
    • Championing tax planning ideas, and conducting continuous research on tax legislation.
    • Identifying and implementing continuous improvement initiatives and best accounting policies that will enhance efficiency in tax reporting and tax cash savings.
    • Implementing tax strategies concerning all internal and external business developments.
    • Reviewing existing tax policies and initiating new ones;
    • Making submissions to the relevant government agencies in tax matters affecting the tea industry.
    • Preparing the relevant board papers and monthly reports.
    • Championing the tax training for all staff.
    • Supervising, and appraising staff and identifying their development and training needs.
    • Developing work plans and budgets for the department.

    Qualifications/Skills/Experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business related field from a recognized Institution
    • A master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or business management from a recognized Institution will be an added advantage.
    • Possess CPA – (K) or ACCA.
    • Should be an active member of ICPAK or equivalent internationally recognized professional body.
    • A minimum of Fifteen (15) years of relevant experience, Five (5) of which at senior management level.
    • Ability to handle departmental budgets, resources, processes, projects, and relationships.
    • Should have a thorough knowledge of tax issues as well as knowledge of regulatory requirements.
    • Must have the ability to plan, organize, implement, and evaluate departmental goals.
    • Must demonstrate ability to handle multiple and conflicting priorities, and work under strict deadlines.
    • Should have strong analytical skills and be result-oriented.
    • Must have high standards of integrity and ethical practice.
    • Must be capable of functioning effectively both as a team player and a team leader.
    • Must have management and Leadership skills.
