    Insights Manager, Connected Society

    About The Role

    Connected Society is seeking an insights manager to help deliver on our research agenda and ensure the GSMA consolidates its position of thought leader in the mobile digital skills space.  insights manager will work with other members of the insights team as well as advocacy and market engagement workstreams to drive research to understand the digital skills requirements in low- and middle-income countries and customise digital skills training materials to meet people’s needs.

    Key Roles And Responsibilities Include

    • Contribute to Connected Society’s research on the mobile usage gap; understanding the digital skills needed by citizens and how their needs can be met
    • Manage all aspects of primary research projects from brief to debrief, in a timely manner
    • Manage the evaluation of the programme’s work on digital skills and share learnings
    • Manage qualitative studies across different markets, collecting and analysing data, and generating and synthesising insights and learnings
    • Manage the relationships with mobile operators to implement a pilot digital skills training programme
    • Engage with mobile operators and other relevant stakeholders on insights projects and to disseminate learnings and make actionable recommendations
    • Disseminate findings and recommendations through, but not limited to, written reports, case studies and workshops with relevant stakeholders, communicate clearly, making sure that the findings are tailored to the target audience
    • Work effectively with other members of the Connected Society team as well as across the GSMA. This includes liaising with other M4D programmes on shaping relevant insights
    • Contribute towards shaping the mobile digital skills agenda, to ensure the programme delivers value to the industry and achieves its targets
    • Support the insights director and senior insights manager to implement the research and learning agenda

    About You

    The right candidate will be able to draw on a solid foundation of research and share a passion for the way mobile internet can empower people living in technologically underdeveloped countries. You must have the right to work in the UK or Kenya.

    Essential

    • Genuine interest in, and enthusiasm for, driving mobile internet adoption and use in low- and middle-income countries, including understanding the commercial and social benefits arising from doing this
    • Prior experience of managing externally commissioned research projects
    • Experience in conducting research using a range of qualitative methods, including user research to inform design of products
    • Experience working in low- and middle-income countries
    • Ability to develop research frameworks, methodologies and questions
    • Comfortable managing relationships with various internal and external stakeholders
    • Excellent writing skills and the ability to write in non-academic style and present complex research outputs in plain language
    • Ability to present persuasively and negotiate programmatic actions with key stakeholders
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, highly motivated to develop initiatives and drive them through to completion
    • Detailed oriented and willing to work in a fast-paced environment

    Desirable

    • Some experience in UX design and design thinking is desirable
    • Experience and interest in working in emerging markets
    • Some experience in education technology (EdTech)
    • Experience in conducting monitoring, evaluation ad learning (MEL) projects
    • Experience working with the private sector and a good understanding of the commercial interests of mobile operators
