    Intern

    Internship Summary:

    • The internship is an opportunity to work with both IAVI and the Stop TB Partnership Working Group on New TB Vaccines (WGNV). WGNV is hosted by IAVI, and facilitates research and development of new vaccines to prevent TB by providing an inclusive forum for stakeholders to engage in scientific exchange, build consensus on key issues, and advocate for greater support and investment in TB vaccine R&D. The WGNV is an informal network of stakeholders engaged in all aspects of TB vaccine R&D and from all constituencies, including academics, product developers, clinicians, advocates, and affected communities.
    • An ideal intern is a motivated student interested in working closely with experts in the field of TB vaccine R&D. The internship provides learning and opportunity to contribute to the development of tools to facilitate communication, information-sharing, and collaboration in the field of TB vaccine R&D. The opportunity is intended to enhance the intern’s knowledge of TB vaccine R&D, build their skills and capacity in communications and advocacy, expose them to current research underway and the state of the field, build their knowledge of the stakeholders engaged in TB vaccine R&D, and help them hone their interests and identify potential avenues for future career opportunities while providing a valuable service to the TB vaccine R&D community.

    Internship Responsibilities:

    • Compile a monthly list of journal articles relevant to TB vaccine R&D to post on the WGNV website;
    • Support the WGNV communications strategy implementation with a particular focus on social media;
    • Assist with the compilation of information on TB vaccine candidates for the WGNV TB Vaccine Pipeline;
    • Support the WGNV Early Career Researcher Network and other WGNV subgroups;
    • Assist with the development of collateral material (fact sheets, infographics, etc) to educate and inform non-scientific audiences about TB vaccine R&D. Assist with other projects as assigned by the manager. 

    Additional Opportunities:

    • Opportunity to interact with a variety of stakeholders in TB vaccine R&D;
    • Access to IAVI materials and publications;
    • Attending select events (in-house or remotely) such as a speaker series events, and other events organized within the organization, particularly for the interns;
    • Obtaining academic credit, if applicable.

    Education:

    • Pursuing a Master’s or PhD program in a science or public health related field is required.

    Qualifications and Skills:

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
    • Experience with social media is required, Twitter and LinkedIn experience is preferred.
    • Interest in scientific communications and advocacy is required.
    • Interpersonal skills, problem-solving skills, and being outcome driven are required.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.
    • Interest in global health and infectious diseases is desirable.
