    Internship: Junior Archivist

    How can you make a difference? 

    • Records retention review and appraisal to determine disposition based on the UNICEF retention schedule 
    • Liaison with record creators on retention matters 
    • Prepare document inventories including creating descriptive metadata 
    • Label folders and boxes appropriately 
    • Housing archival records in archival folders and boxes, including other storage management duties 
    • Perform disposition processes using institutional guidelines 
    • Preparation of selected records for scanning where necessary 
    • Identify historical records 
    • Any other duties as required 

    To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

    • To be enrolled in a degree program in an undergraduate or graduate school in archival studies or related field or be a recent graduate within the past two (2) years with specific post-secondary education in archival studies or related field. 
    • A strong academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records. 
    • A reference letter from a current or past academic supervisor.
    • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergencies is considered an asset. 
    • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) or a local language is an asset. 

    Professional Experience: 

    • Demonstrated understanding of international archival standards, including ISAD(G). 
    • Demonstrated understanding of archival appraisal and retention application. 

    Other Skills and Qualifications

    • Applicants must be at least 18 years old.  
    • Be a Kenyan citizen or have a valid Kenya visa and be able to work legally in Kenya during the duration of the internship. 
    • No immediate relatives working in any UNICEF office or have any other relatives in the line of authority to which the intern will report to.
