Junior Research Assistant - Plant Health Theme at icipe - African Insect Science for Food and Health

Overall Purpose of the Job

• The responsibility of this position will be to assist in planting and maintaining tomatoes and maize in the screen house/farm which is used in rearing Tuta absoluta and Spodoptera frugiperda respectively.

Specific Duties

•  Maintain plant nurseries and provide seedlings/plants to scientists, students, and technical staff in AFFP.
•  Assist the students and technical staff as and when required.

Requirements/Qualifications

•  KCSE or its equivalent with basic skills to perform simple tasks. No experience is required.
•  Expected to have basic knowledge and skills to perform simple tasks. Knowledge is acquired through short periods of instruction.
•  May require prior experience in nursery maintenance.

Other Desirable Attributes

•  Requires approval from the supervisor. However, this must be accompanied by sound personal judgment and quick decision-making on aspects affecting work quality or output.
•  Does not supervise the work of others but may assist other employees in their work.
