    Community Liaison Officer II – BOHEMIA

    JOB PURPOSE: 

    KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme (KWTRP) is one of the leading research centres in Africa. The Programme is hosted within the Centre for Geographic Medicine Research Coast (CGMRC) and engages in a wide range of research on the main causes of ill health in Africa. This position is supported by the BOHEMIA consortium (Broad One-Health Endectocide-based Malaria Intervention in Africa) to evaluate the use of ivermectin mass drug administration for malaria vector control.

    We seek to appoint a community liaison officer II (CLO) who will plan, implement, and evaluate the BOHEMIA project community and key stakeholder engagement activities at the county (Kwale), sub county and national levels. The post holder will work within the existing KWTRP Community Liaison Group (CLG). The appointee is expected to facilitate awareness of the project at the community and stakeholder level, be able to monitor and address misinformation, evaluate appropriate communication channels and delivery of key messages. The CLO II should be able to adapt to audiences of diverse backgrounds and use creative approaches if necessary. We are looking for a young motivated and energetic Kenyan graduate with experience of post-university employment/internship.

    DIRECT REPORTS:

    • Senior Field Workers

    FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY:

    • Responsible for a Laptop,
    • Petty cash budgets up to approximately Ksh. 100,000 associated with fieldwork.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITY:

    • Participate in regular CLG team meetings.
    • Drafting of community and stakeholder engagement plan for the BOHEMIA project in consultation with KWTRP CLG.
    • Undertake, monitor and evaluate the community liaison activities of the BOHEMIA project
    • Contribute to the development of project materials and data collection tools
    • Organization and logistics of meetings including booking venues, preparation of communication materials, refreshments, reimbursements of travel costs and others. 
    • Facilitate, participate, and note take in meetings. 
    • Participate in and supervise fieldworkers in informed consent process as well as support other training activities and offering support/ supervision where needed
    • In collaboration with other community liaison staff, identify, document and apply lessons generated from the various engagement activities
    • Writing internal activity reports for sharing.
    • To collect and respond to community concerns about the study in collaboration with other CLG staff
    • Maintain and update stakeholder contacts in the community.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree in biological, social or health science; Or
    • Master’s Degree with 1-year field experience or equivalent. 
    • At least 3 years’ experience in research or a relevant community engagement related activity
    • Experience working with communities of Kwale
