Lecturer (Geography) at Laikipia University

Key Duties/Responsibilities: 

• Assists in curriculum development and review process. 
• Develops appropriate learning and teaching materials to ensure effective delivery of the subject matter to students. 
• Assists in the development of research projects to extend knowledge of the relevant subject area.  
• Participates in the provision of service to the community and the profession. 
• Participates in learned conferences, symposia and workshops in the area of specializations. 
• Participates in the translation and implementation of knowledge into practice. 
• Participates in discussion on examination results in department and school to ensure effectiveness and general improved performance for each course. 
• Prepares and delivers course outlines, material to students. 
• Delivers lectures to undergraduates and postgraduate students for knowledge acquisition. 
• Conducts continual evaluation of students’ course work and assignments to determine effectiveness of delivery of teaching. 
• Maintains accurate records of students’ attendance, assignments and continuous assessments for accountability and advising students on academic improvement strategy. 
• Participates in academic consultancies. 
• Participates in the development of research projects to extend knowledge of the relevant subject area.  
• Undertakes research and publishes peer-reviewed articles, books and book chapters. 
• Undertakes academic editorial and review tasks in journals, books and book chapters. 
• Assesses students’ performance and prepares students’ progress reports to help in decision making in regards to the academic progress of the affected students. 
• Conducts internal moderation of exams. 
• Conducts academic seminars at departmental and school levels. 
• Supervises both postgraduate and undergraduate research works. 
• Undertakes placement and supervise students on industrial attachment, teaching practice and internship. 
• Attends school and departmental meetings for proper management of the University. 
• Plans and undertakes field trips in order to promote industry-university linkages. 
• Serves as patron to academic clubs and student organizations. 
• Participates in ad hoc and statutory university committees 

Academic/Professional Qualifications 

• Be in possession of a Doctorate degree (PhD) or equivalent Doctoral degree from an accredited or recognized University in the relevant field and possession of a Master’s and Bachelor’s Degrees in related area of specialization. OR 
• Master’s degree (in special cases) from an accredited and recognized University in the relevant field:  
• Registration for a Doctorate degree (PhD) or equivalent Doctoral degree from an accredited and recognized University in the relevant field. 
• Have a minimum of twenty-four (24) publication points, of which at least sixteen (16) should be from refereed journal papers. 
• Possession of a Master’s and Bachelor’s Degrees in related area of specialization. 
• Registration or be registerable by a professional body (where applicable). 
• Must have served in the Grade of Tutorial Fellow or in a comparable position for a minimum period of three (3) years.
