Legal Officer I at Kenya Forest Service (KFS)

Job Specification

This is the entry and induction grade for the Legal Officers cadre. An officer at this level shall report to Head Legal Services.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Providing legal advice to the Service to ensure implementation of best legal approach
2. Drawing up and submitting contracts, agreements and other legal documents
3. Preparing the department’s budget and expenditure
4. Prepare quarterly legal reports
5. Undertake legal research to ensure that the Service is acting in accordance with applicable law.
6. Attend court proceedings
7. Preparing Board resolutions, action plans, Board reports and Board minutes
8. Liaising with external lawyers on all cases files against the Service to ensure instructions, witnesses and statements are procured on time
9. Working with external lawyers to initiate Law suits, formulate defense, gather evidence in legal proceedings involving the Service
10. Representing the Service in litigation matters
11. Responsible for the Legal Assistants in a given section.
12. In charge legal registry
13. Oversee verification compiled records for accuracy;
14. Process legal transactions;
15. Ensure maintenance of efficient filing system; and keep legal records safe.

17. Mentoring and coaching

Job Specifications

1. Degree in law, or any other relevant and equivalent qualifications from a recognized Institution.
2. Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
3. Advocate of the High court of Kenya
4. Member of Law Society of Kenya (LSK)
5. Proficiency in Computer application
