    Legal Officer

    We are seeking to hire a motivated & qualified candidate for the position of a Legal Officer.

    He/ She will be responsible for providing high quality legal advice to the Management and teams within Medanta Africare on a full range of legal and challenging operational issues, in accordance with the following principles: instil and foster a culture of legal compliance, advocate for Ethics & Compliance across all levels within the company, build relationships with external legal advisors.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Legal risk
      1. Review and provide legal advice on MOUs, Contracts, and tender documents.
      2. Review ongoing cases and advice management accordingly.
      3. Liaise with relevant departments to ensure that where legal risks have been identified, appropriate courses of action have been taken.
      4. Provide legal protection and risk management advice to management especially on contract management.
      5. Provide and interpret legal information, conduct training and disseminate appropriate legal requirements to staff.
    2. Policy development
      1. Review and advise management on legal implications of internal policies and procedures.
      2. Review and draft contracts, agreements and internal policies and ensure that they are in compliance with all statutory or legal requirements in the countries where we work.
    3. Litigation management
      1. Review progress of outstanding litigation and liaise with and manage external lawyers.
      2. Identify local needs and develop efficient resource smart solutions including developing network of outside counsel and pro-bono relationships
    4. Regulatory compliance
      1. Continuously monitor compliance with statutory obligations in the country and advise Management accordingly.
      2. Prepare monthly and quarterly reports for the department for executive management meetings.
    5. Contract negotiation
      1. Review all contracts or any other documentation where Africare Limited has committed itself and assess legal implications that need to be brought to the senior management’s
      2. attention.
      3. Prepare, review and modify contractual instruments to assist and support various business activities.
      4. As needed, provide guidance on contract matters to project managers or other operational staff.
      5. Develop and implement procedures for contract management and administration in compliance with Africare Limited policy.
      6. Negotiate, review and draft documentation for business transactions and prepare and advise on the necessary checklist to be adopted to ensure information is submitted on time.

    Skills and Qualifications

    1. MUST have a Law degree
    2. MUST have 3 – 5 years of experience in law firm or hospital organization.
    3. Demonstrate knowledge of, and experience with laws dealing with commercial/contract administration and labour laws.
    4. MUST have good communication skills
    5. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
    6. Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize a demanding workload
    7. Excellent organizational, decision-making and planning skills.
    8. Good interpersonal and customer relation skills.
