    Livestock Field Officer

    Roles and Responsibility:

    • Must have a wide knowledge of livestock sector especially meat breeds.
    • Have a good understanding of body scoring, estimating age (e.g. by using dentation) to ensure animals in good body condition and required weight are purchased paying attention to standards set as at the beginning of every year and spelt out in the PP – KRA.
    • Able to demonstrate a strong track record in negotiation, procurement and budget control from within a livestock procurement environment.
    • Have a good general understanding of animal welfare practices with cattle, goats and sheep production. I.e. common diseases and their vaccination, safe transportation of animals etc.
    • Draw daily /weekly work plan together with General Manager in relation to operations at hand.
    • Should have a clear understanding of the grid pricing structure of livestock in general and auction markets.
    • Must have a wide network within livestock stakeholders both within the beef, sheep and goats sectors.
    • Able to demonstrate excellent communication and organizational skills as well as strong self-motivation and the ability to work within the team.
    • File a weekly report (ROI), monthly and quarterly reports.
    • To ensure the targets set and agreed are achieved for cattle and shoats timeously.
    • Create and maintain a data base of supply sources and update monthly.
    • Maintain contact with livestock farmers, ranches, auction sites and dates through regular field visits.
    • Must have a valid drivers license and a clean record.
    • Must have an ability to work on their own initiative whilst also working as part of a team striving for customer satisfaction.
    • Must have previous farming / livestock experience especially in remote placed markets.
    • Manage and overcome competitors in your area of operations.
    • Work closely with ministry of agriculture and livestock department officials on matters regarding the livestock market, quarantine restriction and other industry factors.
    • Keep confidential all information regarding the company operations that you may come across during your tenure as an officer of the company.
    • Gather intelligence regarding competitors and report the same to OM and GM.
    • You will be answerable to the GM.
    • Any other duty that may be assigned to you by OM and GM.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Animal Production, Dairy Technology, or Agricultural Education and Extension from a recognized Institution
    • 5+ years relevant experience
