    Project Advocacy Officer

    Purpose of the position

    The Project Advocacy Officer will have the responsibility for delivering a coordinated and integrated advocacy intervention and to reinforce impact on the ground by bringing priorities from the grassroots into the LWF’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR), through a Rights-Based Approach. The position will ensure that the voice of the rights-holders voice and engagement in local, national, regional and international human rights spaces is amplified, particularly those touching on issues affecting refugees, asylum seekers, and host local community.

    Specifically,

    • Contribute to the conceptualization of the human rights advocacy projects with a special focus on the UPR Project design and implementation process in a manner that is consistent with the LWF/DWS Kenya-Somalia Program Strategy.
    • Establish new and/or strengthen existing strategic coalitions/alliances/networks at the local level and national level by developing a wider partner engagement strategy with LWF.
    • Additionally, ensure that strong relationships are held as paramount and actively nurtured so that right holders, partners and organizational staff are engaged.
    • Effective and accurate management of project activities, including preparation of logistic and procurement actions necessary to the implementation of the activities, monitoring and evaluation;
    • Ensure quality implementation and facilitate knowledge building and learning sessions among relevant staff, partners and stakeholders on human rights advocacy.
    • Prepare project work plan, M&E plans (in liaison with the SPO PSC and PMER) and submit quality and timely report (internal and external).
    • Actively participate in coordination meetings, cluster, working group/coalitions/network meeting and share the project update for concerned stakeholder.

    Qualifications And Experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Rights, Community Development, Law, Gender Development or related field.
    • Master’s Degree will be an added advantage.
    • Proven experience of minimum 5 years working within a humanitarian and development programme.
    • Experience gained with an international NGO will be an added advantage.
    • Demonstrable experience in UN and/or AU human rights instruments- UPR, ACHPR, Treaty Bodies etc.
    • Certification in either Program Management, Policy Formulation, Gender Rights and Advocacy Skills or other relevant certifications an added advantage.
    • Proven expertise on community engagement, organizational capacity development, and networking is critical.
    • Possession of a valid new generation passport is of essence .

    COMPETENCIES

    • Excellent computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, use of internet and email
    • Proven experience in Project Management within the humanitarian sector.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including influencing negotiation and pragmatism.
    • Excellent analytical, facilitation and documentation experience with humanitarian programmes.
    • Excellent leadership and management skills.
    • Ability to liaise with a variety of people successfully and effectively in a multicultural set up.
    • Ability to work independently.
    • Proven expertise in community outreach, mobilization and organizing.
    • Fluent in written and spoken English.
