Purpose of the Role:
- To provide visionary leadership and strategic direction, ensuring the sustainable growth, governance, and operational effectiveness of the organization in alignment with its mission and values.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Reporting directly to the Board, the Managing Director will be responsible for overseeing the strategic, operational and financial performance perspective of the organization through effective management of the executive leadership team. Duties and responsibilities will entail:
- Chief Executive Officer of the Board;
- Secretary to the Board of Directors;
- Authorized Officer of the Board;
- Accounting Officer of the Board;
- Providing link between the Board of Directors and Management.
- Providing leadership for development and review of dairy industry policies, regulations, strategies, standards, guidelines, norms and practices;
- Ensuring implementation and fulfilment of the policies and agreed objectives; performance targets and service standards of the Board;
- Ensuring marketed dairy produce meets quality and safety requirements;
- Instituting measures to ensure growth and sustainability of the dairy industry;
- Developing and maintaining positive external relationships and strategic partnerships;
- Guiding the development of cost-effective and efficient internal management structures, processes, procedures and systems;
- Ensuring Boards compliance with the applicable legal, regulatory, professional, ethical, governance requirements;
- Ensure that all financial and non-financial resources and assets are effectively and efficiently managed and preserved
- Managing and administrating top leadership and staff in line with the mission and vision of the Board;
- Managing change initiatives to achieve desired organizational goals and objectives;
- Overseeing identification and management of institutional risks; and
- Providing advice to the National Government and provide technical assistance to County Governments on dairy industry matters.
For appointment to this position, a candidate must:
- Have cumulative service period of (15) years’ relevant work experience, five (5) years of which must have been at a grade of a senior management position;
- Have Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Dairy Science and Technology, Food Science and Technology, Food Science and Nutrition, Animal Health and Production, Veterinary Medicine, Social Sciences or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
- Have Master’s Degree in in any of the following disciplines: Dairy Science and Technology, Food Science and Technology, Food Science and Nutrition, Animal Health and Production, Veterinary Medicine, Social Sciences, Business Administration or equivalent qualification from recognized institution;
- Be a member of a relevant professional body and in good standing where applicable;
- Have a Certificate in leadership Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;
- Be proficient in computer applications;
- Have a valid practicing license where applicable;
- Have fulfilled the requirements of Chapter six (6) of the Constitution; and
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of national policies, goals and priorities and ability to relate them to the livestock sector and its products including on development, regulation, marketing and promotion.
