    Medical Officer

    Scope and General Purpose:

    • A medical officer, also known as a medical doctor or physician, plays a crucial role in providing medical care, diagnosing and treating illnesses, and promoting overall health and wellness. The specific job description of a medical officer may vary depending on the setting and organization they work for, but here are some common responsibilities and duties associated with the role:

    Patient Care:

    • Conduct thorough medical examinations, including taking patient histories, performing physical examinations, and ordering diagnostic tests.
    • Diagnose and treat various acute and chronic medical conditions.
    • Prescribe medications and provide appropriate treatment plans based on patient needs.
    • Monitor patients' progress, make necessary adjustments to treatment plans, and provide ongoing medical care and follow-up.

    Medical Consultation:

    • Consult with other healthcare professionals, such as specialists, nurses, and pharmacists, to ensure coordinated and comprehensive patient care.

    • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements regarding patient confidentiality, data protection, and documentation standards.

    Continuous Learning and Professional Development:

    • Stay updated with the latest medical knowledge, research, and advancements in the field.
    • Attend conferences, seminars, and workshops to enhance clinical skills and knowledge.
    • Engage in ongoing professional development activities to maintain licenses and certifications.

    Administrative and Organizational Responsibilities:

    • Participate in departmental meetings, case conferences, and quality improvement initiatives.
    • Collaborate with healthcare administrators and managers to develop and implement policies and protocols.
    • Contribute to developing and reviewing clinical guidelines, protocols, and standard operating procedures.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in Medicine with 3+ years of clinical experience. 
    • Current practicing license from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board 
    • Clinical risk management experience. 
    • Valid indemnity cover 
    • Extensive knowledge of medical record-keeping practices. 
    • Advanced ability to ensure the highest patient care standards and healthcare regulations compliance. 
    • Ability to keep abreast of advancements in specialization. 
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills. 
    • Certificate of Good Conduct
