    Mobile Journalist

    Job Purpose:      

    The Mobile Journalist will play a key role in helping to shoot, produce and edit video  content, photographic and written content. Creates content for multiple digital platforms, including web, mobile and social networks. Delivers compelling content using current production and web-delivery tools. Creates new content that enhances Concern Worldwide.

    Key Responsibilities:     

    • The Mobile Journalist will support the Multimedia Team and the Communications Directorate to conceive, plan, shoot, direct and edit video pieces; select or set up camera shots and graphics 
    • Operates audio, video, photographic and mobile equipment, video editing software and other production equipment
    • Be available to travel within Africa/overseas (and at short notice) to gather personal stories and case studies and reflect these in a variety of multimedia assets
    • Support the Communications Global Strategy by working with the Multimedia Team to conceive, write, film/photograph, edit content for Concern’s digital presence
    • Record and edit video and photography content as required from overseas operations
    • Writes complementary text pieces for content platforms 
    • Proven ability to produce content for social media channels
    • Proven ability to conduct in-depth interviews
    • Provides a steady stream of video content ideas
    • Coordinates creative, technical and pre-and post-production activities to acquire quality video and audio content
    • Produce and plan content for donor visibility
    • Provides content development and user perspective by ensuring consistency throughout the site by ensuring that all content meets Concern’s digital editorial tone and style guide, visual guidelines and branding identity as specified by Concern guidelines
    • Liaise with Concern’s dedicated digital team, as necessary
    • Adapt information for dissemination through several channels, with particular focus on maximising the level of media coverage and engagement
    • Support the Communications Directorate in planning of field trips
    • Provide training to field comms support staff on content gathering and/or managing local media

    Skills and Experience Required:

    Essential:

    • Degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism or English
    • Excellent English both written and verbal skills to appeal to a broad range of audiences
    • Expertise in operating consumer and prosumer production cameras (e.g., Canon 5D, 7D, T4i, Panasonic, Sony and iPhone)
    • Working knowledge of the production process for local content, including studio set-up, remote production, editing and post-production including Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Lightroom and Photoshop
    • Expertise and knowledge of filming, photography and interviewing
    • Knowledge of Concern’s work and an understanding of the key humanitarian and development issues and the main target groups and audiences with whom Concern engages.
    • Experience of communications through social networking sites, with specific relevance to development campaigning and donor visibility
    • A track record of storytelling
    • Ability to travel freely between countries

    Skills

    • Self-starter with well-developed analytical skills and excellent research capabilities.
    • Experience of developing content using mobile phone technology
    • Knowledge and experience of tagging and metadata
    • Knowledge and use of social networking media and the internet and an understanding of the role they play in conveying the aid and development work to different audiences
    • Team player with excellent interpersonal, diplomatic and networking skills
    • Must be able to problem solve, negotiate
    • Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
    • 5+ years proven experience creating and editing digital content
    • Ability to work while standing 50-70% of time
    • Knowledge of balancing, framing and lighting for video concepts
    • Knowledge of writing for audio and video production
    • Ability to lift to 50 lbs
    • Ability to meet constant deadlines and targets
    • A good degree of flexibility, diplomacy and integrity
    • Must be fast learner
    • Travel will be 70% of job

    • actively promote meaningful community participation and consultation at all stages of the project cycle (planning, implementation, M&E); 
    • work with relevant colleagues  to ensure that the Complaints and Response Mechanism (CRM) is functional and accessible, that feedback and complaints are welcomed and addressed; 
    • work with relevant colleagues  to ensure that information about CRM, safeguarding and expected staff behaviour is disseminated among programme participants and communities. 

    Desirable:

    • Knowledge of Concern’s work and development issues
    • Knowledge of challenges gathering content
