    National Development Intern

    JOB PURPOSE

    • The National Development Advisor's function within WFP Kenya encompasses a broad and dynamic scope, focusing on strategic planning, policy analysis, partnership building, advocacy, and leading innovative finance initiatives. An intern will significantly enhance the function’s effectiveness by assisting with research, supporting communication efforts, and facilitating stakeholder engagement.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

    The intern will engage in a range of tasks to support the National Development Advisor's strategic objectives, including:

    • Conducting policy and strategy analysis, assisting in the development of advocacy materials, and contributing to partnership building initiatives.
    • Participating in the monitoring and evaluation of national development plans, aiding in identifying alignment opportunities with WFP’s objectives.
    •  Supporting in the preparation of reports and presentations for stakeholder engagement, including government officials and development partners, and assist in organizing and participating in relevant meetings and workshops.

    STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Administration, International Development, Development Economics and/or a related Field.
    • Graduated no longer than 1 year ago from a Bachelor’s or equivalent studies.

    Language:  Fluency in both oral and written English is required.

    Additional skills:

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Teams Platform
    • Previous experience in Development, Policy analysis or a related field is an added advantage.

    SUCCESS CRITERIA

    • Effective assistance in analyzing government priorities and development strategies to align with WFP’s objectives, resulting in strategic advice that informs WFP's engagement and program implementation.
    • Successful contribution to the development and implementation of advocacy materials and communication strategies that enhance WFP's visibility and role in national development.
    • Meaningful participation in stakeholder meetings and workshops, demonstrating the ability to gather relevant information, engage with partners, and contribute to partnership building.
    • The production of high-quality reports, briefing notes, and presentations that support WFP’s strategic objectives and decision-making processes.
    • Demonstrable learning and professional development in areas relevant to WFP’s mission and the intern’s career aspirations, as reflected in their end-of-internship report
