    Nature Associate

    • We're looking for an innovative Nature Associate with a unique combination of skills who wants to play a major role in tackling climate change.
    • You’ll be joining our Food and Nature team. Nature is a source, solution and victim of climate change, and often taken for granted. The team works to ensure nature and food are at the heart of the climate agenda, rooted in the scientific evidence on how it can help be part of the solution.
    • This role will focus on how nature is used and abused within net zero. The way nature is relied upon and financed has reached a critical point. Many of the most nature-dense regions in the world are also the most fiscally poor, yet these regions are under immense pressure to keep ecosystems (a global good) intact. Carbon markets were gaining political traction, with countries and companies looking for ways to meet climate targets. Scrutiny led to a crash in confidence in the markets, which has created an opportunity to tell a different story about how we account for nature and pay for the protection and restoration of forests. With Colombia hosting the Biodiversity COP16 this year, and Brazil hosting the UNFCCC Climate COP30 in 2025, there is a political window opening to re-imagine the role of nature in climate action and push for solutions that benefit people in some of the poorest parts of the world.
    • This role comes at a very exciting time. Global South to South collaboration has been growing around how to protect and restore forests, and media interest has begun to grow. We are looking for an inquisitive and enthusiastic media hustler that isn’t afraid to get stuck into complex topics and throw themselves into building relationships with journalists and partners.
    • This role will report into the Senior Associate for Nature.
    • If this sounds like you, we'd love for you to apply.

    How you'll contribute

    • Build and maintain journalist lists and relationships.
    • Think of ways to engage journalists in debates around nature, nature finance and land-use both proactively and reactively.
    • Work with Senior Associate for Nature to keep on top of media monitoring, spotting narratives and new spokespeople across the nature, nature finance and carbon markets space.
    • Work to identify and nurture spokespeople that are politically relevant to the audiences we are trying to reach.
    • Collaborate with partners and other parts of the GSCC network to pitch stories to the media.
    • Support digital colleagues in the development of digital campaigns at key moments.
    • Work closely with the Senior Associate for Nature to identify campaigns and communications tactics around key global moments.

    Our ideal candidate has

    • Experience working with the media - writing press releases, pitching stories to, and maintaining relationships with key journalists.
    • An understanding of global politics, more specifically across  Africa is desirable but not essential.
    • A proactive attitude, with a willingness to work hard, bring ideas to the table and get things done.
    • Experience working in different cultural and political contexts in the global north and global south would be valuable.
    • Fluency in written and spoken English, our working language; additional languages are an asset
    • A genuine interest in and passion for addressing climate change.
    • The disposition to work generously with colleagues in a high-trust global community of peers.
    • The versatile and adaptable skills necessary to flourish in a fast-paced and wide-ranging work environment and work across time zones using tools such as Zoom, Slack and email (Google Workspace).
    • A commitment to an inclusive and empowering approach to facing climate change.
