    Nurse

    What We’re Looking For

    • A Nurse who is responsible for receiving patients, retrieving and reviewing their medical records, taking and recording vital signs, and conducting an initial assessment to determine the appropriate level of medical attention required. The Nurse directs patients to the appropriate healthcare provider or service based on their needs.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Perform triage duties; Taking patients vital signs accurately & recording and referring them for next stage of treatment or intervention.
    • Receive patients at the clinic after registration, examine and make assessment of patients giving the highest priority to the severely sick/injured in the treatment room.
    • Ensure files and records of patients are accurately updated, while maintaining integrity and confidentiality of their data and information.
    • Ensure up to date emergency tray and availability of medical supplies at all service delivery points.
    • Deliver both MCH and youth friendly services effectively.
    • Prepare and timely submit periodic medical reports whenever required.
    • Ensure general cleanliness of the admission/triage area and manage its orderliness and ensure a safe environment for patients through adherence to infection control practices and other safety policies.
    • Promptly report both clinical and non-clinical unusual findings/incidences to Supervisor and KHWC Administrator.
    • Ensure proper and cost-effective use of resources, document use of materials and consumables for accurate and timely billing and stock management.
    • Care for equipment through proper cleaning, storage, per shift check of the inventory and timely reporting and follow-up of non-functional equipment to the KHWC Administrator.
    • Develop written care plans based on patient's needs, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions
    • Actively participate in regular continuous medical education (CMEs) with the team.
    • Administer medication safely, monitor patient responses to medication, and report adverse reactions promptly.
    • Uphold Infection prevention and control (IPC) universal principles and waste management guidelines.
    • Identify and provide patient and youth education needs and conduct primary health care programs/activities to promote healthy living.
    • Provide health education to patients and relevant health talks to our Kakenya students.
    • Participate in program outreach activities as assigned.
    • Perform minor medical procedures such as wound cleaning & dressing, stitching, nebulization etc.
    • Conduct regular instrument processing and sterilization of medical equipment.
    • Perform any other duties and responsibilities which may be assigned by Supervisor from time to time.

    Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    Education/Academic Qualification

    • Diploma/Degree in Community Health Nursing from a recognized institution.

    Professional Qualification

    • Registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya
    • A Diploma in Counseling from a recognized institution will be an added advantage.
    • Certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS).

    Relevant Work Experience

    • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant work experience in a busy health facility
    • Experience in a youth-friendly facility is an added advantage

    Competencies/Abilities/Skills Required

    • Very good knowledge of nursing, medical care and counseling standards and procedures
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills; both English and Kiswahili
    • Demonstrate evidence-based knowledge of the current practices in general nursing in an outpatient setup
    • Experience working in a youth-friendly health facility will be an added advantage.
    • Ability to multi-task in any given situation.
    • Must be compassionate, possess integrity and respect values.
    • Ability to pay attention to detail and report accurately.
    • Self-driven individual who is diligent, honest, disciplined and responsible
    • Must be pleasant, with a heart to serve, and possess genuine love for community.
    • Ability to offer quality services at all times to all patients and an individual with a passion for the wellbeing of patients.
    • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
    • Basic computer literacy/ knowledge
    • Ability to work long hours sometimes committing to late evening, emergency calls at night and working over weekends.
