Job Description
The Program Manager is responsible for the successful delivery of the whole of the proposed change, co-ordination of the program's projects and management of their inter-dependencies.
Qualifications
Management of Operations:
This includes maintaining or expanding ongoing programs; working closely with the Board of Directors to seek their involvement in policy decisions and fundraising; maintaining official records and documents, and ensuring compliance with statutory regulations and reporting requirements; keeping the Board informed on the operations and on any significant issues influencing operations; providing general oversight of all activities and managing day- to-day operations; submitting to the Board annual budgets and regular financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organisation; ensuring the organisation operates within the approved budget.
Fund-raising & Managing Relationship with donors:
This involves cultivating and soliciting prospective donors and corporate sponsors; seeking to tap into new funding sources and to increase funding levels from current partners and donors; maintaining
positive donor relationships and ensuring that funds are disbursed in accordance with contract requirements and donor designations; providing the necessary donor reporting on time and in high quality; managing the profile of the organization on the web and in social media; overseeing the fiscal activities to ensure there are adequate controls; fundraising and developing other resources necessary to support our Mission; measuring the impact of the organization and communicating this impact regularly and effectively to all donors.
Providing Leadership & Human Resource Management:
This key task area involves displaying and inspiring exemplary behaviour/attitude on a consistent basis with staff; being a source of motivation for staff, community volunteers and interns; nurturing positive
interpersonal relations and promoting teamwork; providing direction that will enable staff to meet goals; delegating roles and responsibilities appropriately; creating a positive, supportive space where staff feel valued and their opinions respected; specifying responsibilities and accountability for personnel; evaluating staff performance regularly; developing processes for developing, motivating, and evaluating staff and volunteers; establishing administrative policies and procedures for all functions and for the day-to-day operation of the organisation; providing time and space for staff to regularly reflect
on their work with the children and families, to learn from each other, and to identify strategies that are effective, and strategies that need to change; identifying and utilising strengths in staff; identifying areas that staff need capacity building, and liaising with Board in preparing staff development plan; and consistently working towards self-development through mentorship and training opportunities, and by seeking for help and guidance from the Board where necessary.
Managing Beneficiary Expectations {Children and Their Parents, And Teenage Mothers}:
This entails bringing a positive, strengths-based focus to our work with children; nurturing an environment where children and families feel valued; taking time to know the children and their respective families; gathering feedback of their experience, their experience in the schools they attend, and their relationship with staff, and using the feedback for forward planning; developing guidelines to enable staff to understand the needs of the children; involving staff and parents in strategizing on ways of enabling at risk families to meet identified needs and of enabling at-risk children to build resilience; involving
children in decision-making through students’ council and/or children’s parliament; enhancing life skills towards sustainable livelihoods for teenage mothers; ensuring staff and volunteers adhere to our child protection policy; providing oversight of and working to enhance effectiveness of sponsorship program; overseeing social support activities such as home visits, social work and counselling; and overseeing school holiday programs.
Promote and support the development of the social enterprise:
This will include enhancing profitability of ongoing enterprises - reusable pads, heart bags; harnessing the economic potential of the skills development program for teenage mothers; and overseeing marketing and other communications efforts intended to promote our social enterprise.
Engaging the external community:
As the public face of the organisation, you will be involved in promoting awareness to the outside community - by being a spokesperson that both listens and communicates. This key task areas also involves establishing sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community groups and organisations; and enhancing the organisation's image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional, civic and private organisations at the community level.
