    Program Officer - Advocacy and Community Research Advisor

    Overall Objectives of the position:

    • EDCA is implementing a PAMOJA: Collective Action on Climate Change Project - A multi-party advocacy and learning project promoting citizen-led, child-focused climate resilient development in Makueni and Kajiado counties in Kenya. The organization is therefore looking for the Programs Officer- Advocacy and Community Research Advisor to facilitate the successful implementation of the Project.
    • Working closely with the Project Manager, with technical support from Livelihoods Specialist, the Programs Officer- Advocacy and Community Research Advisor will be responsible for the planning, implementation and reporting the progress of the project. He/she will be expected to develop and maintain a good relationship with the project participants, relevant Government Departments at the National and County level and all the stakeholders to deliver on his /her mandate. The position entails participants interaction and upholding high standards of humanitarian work.

    Duties/Responsibilities

    • Gather, review, and analyze existing studies, best practices, and data to support the evaluation and tracking of key climate change issues, and the identification and prioritization of issue positions and policies.
    • Work directly with the stakeholders to identify and prioritize child-focused climate change issues and develop strategies and action plans. This includes the development of partnerships and coalitions and the creation of content for fact sheets, petitions, and other advocacy outreach tools.
    • Evaluate and address potential emerging climate change threats to child welfare within EDCA operation areas
    • Develop and implement EDCA advocacy strategy
    • Assist in conducting baseline and evaluation surveys, focus group discussions, and key informant interviews with the project participants and other stakeholders.
    • Provide technical & logistical support for the projects implementation and ensure that the activities are implemented on time and according to the project design as provided in the proposal.
    • Assist in designing, developing, and implementing specific work plans and budgets related to the project and ensure that the project objectives are achieved.
    • Collect and report data on the progress, challenges, and impact of the project activities.
    • Identify and document success stories, lessons learned, and best practices from the project with the support of Communications Manager.
    • Participate in project planning, review, and evaluation meetings.
    • Conduct field visits and monitor the implementation of the project.
    • Prepare and submit consolidated donor reports on project implementation Progress.
    • Share all relevant joint monitoring findings and the implementation status of joint recommendations to the Project Manager and Livelihoods Specialist.
    • Establish and maintain good working relationships with the relevant Government line ministries and departments at County/Sub-County and Ward levels, with National and international NGOs, Community Resource persons and other structures.
    • Assist in organizing missions to the Field sites.
    • Ensure that all project activities are done on time, maintained in the field and all the
    • technologies applied are all up and running.
    • Ensure proper accountability and provide regular feedback.
    • Assist in conducting regular meetings with local administration, stakeholders including
    • National & County Governments and implementation partners.
    • Integrate and Mainstream Gender and Child protection measures into the project.
    • Conduct modern advocacy.
    • Support in Fundraising through the development of concepts and proposals
    • Coordinate the provision of technical guidance and training to project participants.
    • Any other duties as allocated by the supervisor.

    Qualifications/Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in project management, Agribusiness, Environmental Science,
    • Economics and Sociology or any other related field.
    • At least 2 years of experience in Project management, Advocacy, climate change adaptation or rural development projects.
    • Ability to mobilize support and/or fundraise.
    • Excellent communication, facilitation, report writing and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data analysis tools
    • Willingness to travel frequently to the field sites.
