    Programmes Advisor

    Department: Programmes

    Reports to: Executive Director

    Duration: 3 months

    JOB SUMMARY

    Transparency International Kenya (TI-Kenya) is an autonomous chapter in the Transparency International movement, a non-partisan global coalition of like-minded individuals and organizations against corruption with which we share knowledge and exchange ideas for the greater good of Kenya.

    TI-Kenya seeks to recruit a Programmes Advisor to support the Executive Director in the day to day management of Transparency International Kenya programmes.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    More specifically, the Programmes Advisor will be in charge of;

    • Leadership:
      • Provide direction, input and feedback to programme staff.
      • Support the Programmes Committee of the Board of Directors.
    • Programme Management:
      • Guided by the TI-Kenya Strategy and organizational mandate, support the Executive Director and Programme Staff in implementation of TI-Kenya programmes.
      • Management of programmes, including quality control.
      • Coordinate overall reporting to donors and stakeholders
      • Ensure programmes operate within approved budgets
    • Strategic Development
      • Develop new initiatives to anchor the strategic direction of the organisation
      • Provide input to Programme Coordinators (or Programme Officers as the case may be) in the development and review of strategies to realise the objectives of the organization.
    • Good Practice and Institutional Learning
      • Provide technical input to the development of structured opportunities to facilitate internal and partner learning
      • Guide project monitoring, reviews and evaluations and the development of good practice guidelines
      • Assess the performance of TI-Kenya programmes
    • Budget Management, Resource Mobilisation and Business Development/Social Enterprise
      • Develop resourcing strategies that respond to programme and organisational objectives
      • Oversee and provide guidance in the development of project proposals and progress reports based on established standards as required
      • Develop and track budgets, and monitor programme expenditure against budgets for TI-Kenya interventions

    Reporting

    Provide leadership, oversight and guidance to programmes and support staff in consolidating quarterly and annual narrative, and financial reports internally to the Executive Director and externally to donors, governments and other partners.

    Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as assigned from time to time.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in management positions having managed and developed successful programmes with excellent people management skills;
    • Relevant third level education (development, organisational and institutional capacity building, law, social science or any other relevant discipline);
    • Knowledge of the NGO sector and preferably in the governance field;
    • Knowledge of dynamics of partnership and experience in a role directly involved with such partnerships;
    • Experience in fundraising (proven ability to secure funding);
    • Experience and ability to conceptualise, implement and evaluate programmes.

    • A good appreciation of advocacy;
    • High level skills in report writing and presentation;
    • A mature self-starter, a good communicator and team builder with the ability to manage and motivate staff;
    • Excellent verbal, analytical, managerial and organisational skills;
    • Strategic thinker;
    • Solid experience in programme management;
    • Excellent leadership skills;
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
    • High degree of flexibility.
