PATH is currently recruiting for a Project Manager (PM) responsible for managing key internal and external activities determining project success, such as leading development of integrated project plans, developing and tracking schedules and identifying and managing critical risks. While reporting through the Center for Vaccine Innovation and Access (CVIA) Project and Portfolio Management function (PPM), the PM will serve as a project manager for the Enteric Diarrheal Disease Area and potentially other projects. 

PATH’s Center for Vaccine Innovation and Access spans every stage of the long and complex process of vaccine research, development, and introduction to make lifesaving vaccines widely available to women, children, and communities across the world. CVIA’s current portfolio encompasses more than two dozen vaccines either in development or already in use to protect against 18 different diseases, including diarrheal disease, malaria, meningitis, pneumonia, polio, and COVID. We work in partnership with national health ministries, pharmaceutical manufacturers, donors, international financing and regulatory organizations, and many others. PATH has led numerous global partnerships, including the award-winning Meningitis Vaccine Project and the Malaria Vaccine Initiative, which helped develop the first malaria vaccine candidate recommended for pilot implementation.  PATH’s work on vaccine development and introduction encompasses activities including discovery, preclinical development, clinical research and development, process development and manufacturing, regulatory and vaccine introduction. Over 25 candidates and vaccines are currently in our portfolio in the following disease areas – Malaria, Enteric and Diarrheal Diseases, Polio, Respiratory Tract Infections and Meningitis, HPV and Vector-borne viral diseases (e.g., Japanese Encephalitis, Yellow Fever) – and in the cross-cutting areas of Maternal Immunization and Immunization Systems Strengthening.

Responsibilities:

• Partner with Project Leader(s) and other project team members to develop overall project strategy, global, cross-functionally integrated work plans, cost estimates, milestones and annual goals for the project.
• Collaborate with Project Leader(s) to determine project success and go/no-go criteria and timing for tactical and decision-making reviews throughout the project lifecycle.
• Work with Project Leader(s), identify and proactively drive high quality project deliverables, understand dependencies, and identify and track critical path items. Proactively manage changes in project scope and drive risk management including developing and implementing mitigation strategies in a constantly changing environment.
• Develop and track integrated project plans including, but not limited to, the following: schedules, resource plans, communication plans, risk mitigation plans, and issue resolution plans.
• Implement and maintain project management tools for planning, tracking and proactively managing change.
• Develop and maintain high-performing teams in conjunction with Project Leader(s).
• Lead efforts to develop project communications and updates for PATH vaccines leadership and donors.
• Work closely with functional staff and finance staff to forecast and request appropriate allocation of resources to execute project activities and deliverables.
• Coordinate activities with external business partners as applicable.
• Coordinate the development of new and revision of existing grant proposals, as well as donor reports.
• Depending on prior experience, the project manager may also contribute to functional and vaccines-wide assignments such as the following:
  • Mentorship and/or management of less experienced project managers
  • Improvement of project and portfolio management processes and tools
  • Meeting management for governance

Required Skills

• A minimum of 3 years of overall biologics product development experience, including at least 2 years in a hands-on project management role working in cross-functional teams (or a matrixed organizational structure). Experience on early, late-stage or post-licensure products in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry highly desired and vaccine knowledge preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in life sciences or relevant discipline.
• Previous work experience in a large matrixed organization structure.
• Demonstrated proficiency of project management, project reporting, and risk management. Certification in project management desirable.
• Knowledge and understanding of the product development process for biologics (vaccine-specific experience preferred)
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills including negotiation and conflict management.
• Ability to work effectively on fast-paced, complex projects and on teams with members across the globe.
• Advanced computer skills, including project management software such as Smartsheet, the Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
• Possible travel up to 25%
• Must have legal authorization to work in the PATH country office location.

COVID-19 Vaccine Requirement 

PATH has instituted a COVID-19 vaccine mandate for all employees, interns, consultants, and temporary staff based in the United States. Individuals selected for job opportunities in the United States must be fully vaccinated, and show proof of vaccination status, upon hire. Individuals are considered fully vaccinated 2 weeks after their second dose in a 2-dose series, such as Pfizer or Moderna, or 2 weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson. Individuals with medical issues or sincerely held religious beliefs that prevent them from getting the vaccine may request an exemption from the vaccine requirement.
