We work in eight countries across Africa and Asia, and in 2017 alone, we facilitated crop and livestock insurance cover to 611,000 farmers in Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Nigeria, Ethiopia and Malawi.     Senior Analyst, Crop Development

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Full ownership of crop development reports (CDRs) for all Pula projects, from project initiation to wet harvest, ranging from at least two to several reports depending on the crop type and timing of project kickoff.
    • Monitor new project requests and execution of surveys daily to ensure timely setup and execution of surveys, and communicate delays early to clients and other stakeholders.
    • Responsible for pre-harvest survey design, with continuous improvement and adaptations as Pula expands the number and type of covered crops.
    • Sets up new surveys on our survey management and business intelligence platforms.
    • Collaborates closely with Country Operations teams and call centers for initial training, and ensure timely execution and gather additional / follow up information.
    • Ensures that all reports are delivered on or before the deadline based on when the project was initiated.
    • Identifies when survey designs are not working or not generating necessary insights and make improvements as needed.
    • Collaborate closely with the Innovations team to integrate remote-sensing based data into CDRs, where available.
    • Access and analyze rainfall data from available sources and compare with internally reported data to check for consistency.
    • Collaborate with Insurance and Actuarial Operations and Commercial teams to help improve report layout and design and ensure it comprehensively meets client requirements and is readily understandable to a lay reader with no background in agriculture;
    • Update the report template to integrate newly requested insights such that they become standard for all clients without compromising readability.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    The right applicant would have the following skillset:

    • Bachelor degree in agricultural economics or related field
    • Advanced understanding from experience of farmer surveys and studies
    • Advanced understanding of statistics - not just producing them but interpreting what they do (and DON’T) mean, levels of confidence, limits of survey design, etc.
    • Demonstrated experience producing survey and research reports under tight deadlines
    • Excellent presentation, interpersonal, time management, research, and communications skills.
    • Comfortable working in a rapidly changing/innovative environment where some aspects to achieve result are yet to be defined
    • Experience collaborating across multiple teams/stakeholders
    • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence others and establish credibility externally and with stakeholders.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Extremely organized and detail-oriented.
    • Fluent in Microsoft Office, Excel and Powerpoint.
    • Knowledge of R, Python and QGIS are a plus.
