Job Purpose
- To provide engineering leadership through the effective management of maintenance, utilities, reliability, plant assets, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective manufacturing operations while supporting the achievement of production, quality, safety, environmental, and business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering and Maintenance Management
- Develop and implement preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs for all plant equipment.
- Establish machine-specific maintenance schedules and ensure timely execution of all maintenance activities.
- Ensure the availability and reliability of production equipment to support manufacturing operations.
- Monitor equipment performance and implement initiatives to improve plant reliability.
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with established engineering standards and procedures.
- Coordinate engineering resources to minimize production downtime.
Reliability and Equipment Performance
- Monitor and analyze machine breakdowns and equipment failures.
- Lead root cause analysis (RCA) investigations and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Track and improve Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) and Mean Time to Repair (MTTR).
- Develop reliability-centered maintenance programs for critical plant equipment.
- Implement condition-monitoring techniques to improve equipment performance.
- Identify recurring equipment failures and develop long-term solutions.
Utilities Management
- Manage all plant utilities, including water treatment, boilers, air compressors, refrigeration systems, chillers, steam systems, power distribution systems, and wastewater treatment facilities.
- Ensure uninterrupted utility services to support production requirements.
- Monitor utility consumption and identify opportunities for optimization.
- Ensure utility systems comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Develop maintenance programs for all utility equipment.
Spare Parts and Inventory Management
- Ensure the availability of critical engineering and maintenance spare parts.
- Monitor spare-part consumption and inventory levels.
- Review weekly and monthly spare-part variances and implement corrective actions.
- Collaborate with procurement to ensure timely acquisition of engineering materials.
- Establish appropriate stock levels for critical spare parts.
- Review repair and CAPEX requirements and provide clear technical justification.
Budget and Financial Management
- Prepare and manage the Engineering and Maintenance budget.
- Ensure maintenance spending is controlled within budget.
- Investment decisions are supported by clear technical justification, cost analysis, and operational benefits.
Engineering Projects and Capital Expenditure
- Plan, coordinate, and implement engineering projects.
- Lead equipment installation, modification, commissioning, and plant expansion projects.
- Develop technical specifications for new equipment.
- Manage engineering projects within approved budgets and timelines.
- Coordinate contractors and service providers during project implementation.
Safety, Food Safety, Environmental, and Regulatory Compliance
- Promote a culture of safety throughout the engineering function.
- Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety standards.
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with food safety requirements and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Conduct safety audits and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and waste-management requirements.
- Stop equipment or production processes when safety, quality, or food safety risks are identified.
Continuous Improvement and Operational Excellence
- Identify opportunities to reduce losses associated with equipment failures, utilities, materials, and energy consumption.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to improve plant efficiency.
- Implement Lean Manufacturing, TPM, 5S, and other operational excellence initiatives.
- Support the achievement of production and quality targets through engineering improvements.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
Team Leadership and People Management
- Provide leadership and technical guidance to engineering and maintenance teams.
- Identify training and development needs for engineering employees.
- Conduct performance appraisals in accordance with company policies.
- Develop technical competency within the engineering department.
- Promote employee engagement and a high-performance culture.
- Lead, coach, and develop the Engineering and Maintenance team.
- Develop and maintain an Engineering Skill Matrix and conduct competency assessments.
- Identify skill gaps and implement OEM and internal technical training programmes.
- Ensure effective shift coverage and timely maintenance support.
- Build a strong culture of ownership, discipline, safety, and continuous improvement.
Documentation and Systems Management
- Ensure all maintenance activities are accurately documented in approved systems.
- Maintain equipment histories, maintenance records, breakdown reports, and engineering documentation.
- Ensure the real-time updating of maintenance activities in SAP and other approved systems.
- Prepare and submit engineering performance reports.
Qualification and Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or an equivalent engineering discipline from a recognized institution.
- Registration with the relevant engineering professional body is an added advantage.
Experience
- 7–10 years of engineering experience within an FMCG manufacturing environment.
- At least 5 years of experience in beverage manufacturing.
- Experience managing high-speed beverage production lines.
Technical Skills
- Hands-on experience with beverage manufacturing equipment.
- Knowledge of preventive, predictive, and reliability-centered maintenance.
- Experience with utilities management.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Experience with SAP maintenance modules.
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
- Knowledge of TPM, Lean Manufacturing, and 5S methodologies.
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and electrical schematics.
- Knowledge of OEE, MTBF, MTTR, and RCA methodologies.
