    QSSK-SI-OM-Operations Manager

    Job Summary

    To manage the execution, direction, and coordination of all transportation matters within the organization including organizing loading schedules, route planning and ensuring that vehicles are safe and meet legal requirements, and making sure that drivers are aware of their duties.

    Duties And Responsibilities

    • Planning routes and load scheduling for cargo from the points of origin to the final destinations
    • Collaborate with the customer to establish the nature of cargo available for haulage and allocate the required type of trucks for loading on priority basis
    • Directing activities related to dispatching, routing, and all-round tracking of transportation trucks
    • Ensure maximum efficient utilization of the company’s fleet of trucks to the best interest of the business
    • Planning, organizing, managing and supervising subordinate staff members within Operations department to ensure work is coordinated, executed, accomplished and consistent with the required standards
    • Prepare budget estimates for Operations department and control the expenditure related to the department in line with the approved budget
    • Approve any operational expenses required for operational purposes within the delegated approval limits as set out by Management from time to time
    • Convening and chairing daily meetings for Operations staff for purposes of setting and communicating operational priorities and evaluating team performance
    • Directing investigations to verify and resolve any customer complaints
    • Develop performance indicators that measure and show the effectiveness and efficacy of the company’s transportation operations
    • Assist in the recruitment and appointment of competent operations staff including interview, selection, training, and performance appraisal of operations personnel
    • Conduct necessary investigation(s) and inquiries to determine the cause of problems like accidents (if any arises) and to set up safety measures to avoid recurrence of such issues
    • Collaborate with the Workshop Manager to arranging repairs and routine maintenance of the company’s fleet of trucks
    • Complying with transportation-related policies, as well as safety rules, regulatory requirements and government regulations
    • Perform all duties in a professional manner which promotes the image, growth, profitability, and success of the company
    • Maintain a high degree of confidentiality with issues related to drivers (private and personal matters), rates, customers, and other proprietary items and information
    • Communicating effectively with customers/clients and responding to their needs and requirements.
    • Coordinating and booking sub-contractors and ensuring they deliver the required services within the agreed terms

    Knowledge, Skills, And Experience

    • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in logistics, business management, social sciences or related field
    • Mechanical/Automotive Engineering or in a related technical engineering field from a recognized university
    • In the alternative, a Diploma in Mechanical/Automotive Engineering coupled with a minimum of 10 years working experience as a Workshop Manager/Supervisor in an automotive workshop
    • Must be trained in Health and Safety / First Aid training pertinent to workshop environments
    • Valid driving license in heavy commercial vehicles is an added advantage
    • Minimum of 5 years working experience in a transportation/logistics company in a supervisory/management role
    • At least 2 years' hands-on experience as a transportation manager or coordinator in a similar industry preferably dealing with clearing and forwarding/port operations issues
    • Experience in managing a fleet of trucks and drivers traversing international borders
    • Experience working with transport management systems tracking systems and software
    • Ability to work in a flexible schedule including overtime when required
