Initiate ABS documentation, submission, and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure compliance and rapid acquisition of permits.
Review the PIC&MAT, Material Transfer Agreements (MTA) and other contracts for respect of terms, updating or renewal, trace and track the benefits according to the agreed PIC&MAT and MTA,
Work closely with the ILRI biorepository manager to ensure the compliance of samples kept in ILRIs facilities, and update on the compliance status, and follow up subsequence actions,
Maintain records including ensuring an updated data platform linking the samples to their compliance documentation,
Advise CTLGH/LiveGene and partners’ community on ABS related issues.
Conduct literature review of both peer-reviewed and gray literature on ABS.
Consolidate information on domestic measures addressing benefit-sharing from Digital Sequence Information on Livestock in CTLGH/ILRI partner countries/institutions
Maintain the actionable road map for mainstreaming ABS for CTLGH projects.
Obtain and file the international recognized certificates of compliance (IRCC) for all CTLGH and LiveGene projects
Provide regular updates to supervisors and perform any other related duties as may be required
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in law,
At least five years’ experience in a similar role
Strong analytical skills and innovative thinking
Basic French knowledge would be an advantage
Good working knowledge of ITC technologies and computer applications (e.g. MS Office)
Knowledge and experience of the ABS Nagoya protocol and related matters together with experience of ABS matters in the research context.
Knowledge in drafting and reviewing legal documents, agreements, meeting and dispute resolutions, and transaction instruments such as contracts would be an added advantage
Experience working on ABS in the context of agricultural and genomic research would be an added advantage
Experience in reporting and presenting ABS and biodiversity would be an added advantage
