    Roster - Nutrition in Emergencies (NiE) Expert, Consultancy, RBN

    BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT

    The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. As such, nutrition is integral to our mission of reaching Zero Hunger and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Achieving increased response capacity in nutrition both within WFP and with partners, especially government partners, has been articulated in a comprehensive WFP’s Nutrition Policy and Country Capacity Strengthening work. 

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

    • Under the supervision of the Head of Nutrition or the Emergency Coordinator, the NiE Expert will be responsible to accelerate the Nutrition in Emergencies responses and provide technical advice and guidance in support to NiE programming. This includes:
    • Liaise and collaborate with the Emergency preparedness and response team to ensure nutrition aspects are integrated into emergency-related activities.
    • Set up, implement, and monitor quality emergency nutrition activities (e.g., targeted supplementary feeding, blanket supplementary feeding, etc.).
    • Provide support for operational partnerships, including inter-agency collaboration, to ensure a strong response to nutrition in emergencies and attend internal and external meetings as necessary to represent WFP.
    • Support the Emergency Coordinator in documenting lessons learnt on implementation and provide technical nutrition guidance to strengthening the WFP nutrition component of the response.
    • Provide strategic and technical support on nutrition programming in emergencies, including emergency preparedness actions, contingency planning, risk analysis and early warning related to nutrition risks.

    STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education:

    • Advanced degree in the field of international nutrition, public health, social sciences or other relevant areas.

    Experience:    

    • At least 5 years of relevant experience, including in emergency contexts;
    • Experience in the design, implementation, and management of     nutrition programmes in emergency settings;
    • Experience working in partnership and with government, UN agencies  or cooperating partners in the field;
    • Experience with UN is an asset.

    Knowledge and Skills:

    • Ability to engage effectively at working level with a wide range of f actors including international community and governments
    • Good communication, writing and facilitation skills;
    • Flexibility and adaptability;
    • Analytical and problem-solving skills;
    • Interpersonal and cross-cultural sensitivity;
    • Able to work under pressures and meet deadlines;
    • Able to work in a sometimes fluid and insecure environment;
    • Good computer skills.

    Language:

    • Fluency in English is required (Level C - reading, writing, speaking); proficiency in French is an asset.
