    Semiconductor Engineer (Foundry Setup)

    Position Overview:

    Our Client is seeking a highly skilled Semiconductor Engineer to play a pivotal role in the establishment and setup of a state-of-the-art semiconductor foundry in Kenya. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading the technical aspects of the foundry setup and overseeing the production of various semiconductors. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of Kenya’s semiconductor industry and shape the future of technology in the region.

    Responsibilities:

    • Lead the planning, design, and setup of the semiconductor foundry facility, ensuring adherence to industry standards and best practices.
    • Collaborate with vendors and equipment suppliers to identify and select the appropriate semiconductor manufacturing equipment, tools, and materials required for the foundry.
    • Develop and optimize semiconductor fabrication processes, including lithography, etching, deposition, diffusion, and packaging, to achieve high-quality semiconductor production.
    • Identify and address process-related challenges, optimize yield, and minimize defects through continuous process improvement techniques.
    • Establish and implement quality control measures and protocols to ensure the production of semiconductors that meet or exceed industry standards and customer requirements.
    • Develop and execute test and characterization methodologies to evaluate semiconductor devices, ensuring compliance with specifications and performance targets.
    • Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment and process issues, coordinating with cross-functional teams to resolve problems promptly. Develop maintenance protocols to ensure the longevity and optimal performance of equipment.
    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including process engineers, electrical engineers, and technicians, providing technical guidance and training to ensure seamless operations within the foundry.
    • Implement safety procedures and adhere to regulatory requirements to create a safe working environment within the foundry facility.
    • Stay abreast of the latest developments in semiconductor fabrication processes, equipment, and technologies. Identify opportunities for innovation and efficiency improvements to drive the foundry’s long-term success.

     Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Semiconductor Physics, Materials Science, or a related field. A master’s or doctoral degree is preferred.
    • Extensive experience (5+ years) in semiconductor process engineering or semiconductor manufacturing, with a proven track record of leading successful semiconductor foundry setup projects.
    • In-depth knowledge of semiconductor fabrication processes, equipment, and cleanroom protocols. Previous experience in establishing a semiconductor foundry or transferring processes to a new location is highly desirable.
    • Proficiency in semiconductor process development and optimization, including lithography, etching, deposition, diffusion, and packaging. Familiarity with equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and yield enhancement techniques.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify, diagnose, and resolve process-related challenges. Experience with statistical analysis and data-driven decision-making is advantageous.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and external vendors. Experience leading and training a team is a plus.
    • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with changing priorities. Demonstrated flexibility and resilience in managing complex projects.
    • Regulatory Compliance: Familiarity with safety protocols and regulatory requirements in semiconductor manufacturing, including ESD protection, cleanroom practices, and environmental regulations.
    • Passion for continuous learning and staying updated on emerging semiconductor technologies, industry trends, and best practices. Strong aptitude for innovation and process optimization.
