Qualifications.
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:
- At least 6 (six) years cumulative work experience, three (3) of which should have been at the grade of Accountant I or in a comparable position in the Private or the Public sector;
- Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines, Commerce, Finance; Economics, Business Administration/Management (Finance or Accounting option) or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
- Part lll of the Certified Public Accountants (CPA) Examination or Equivalent qualification from a recognized institution; indigent;
- Been a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) or an Associate of Certified Chartered Accountant (ACCA) or any other relevant professional body;
- Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and result.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Senior Accountant is responsible for the following functions;
- Generating invoices for approvals;
- Verifying amount billed as per relevant regulation;
- Facilitate prompt delivery of sales invoices;
- Participating in debt collection and follow up in liaison with relevant department/officers;
- Responding to a debtor queries;
- Reconciling and distributing debtor’s statement;
- Maintaining file of disputed invoices;
- Carrying out monthly bank accounts reconciliations;
- Processing of payment vouchers including payroll payments vouchers;
- Process of statutory deductions payments e.g. PAYE, VAT an withholding tax among others;
- Supervising stock taking and reconciliation;
- Verifying payments vouchers and staff imprest in accordance with the laid down financial procedures, policies and regulations;
- Reconciling general ledger expense accounts;
- Preparing and maintaining accurate prepayments, accruals and provision schedules;
- Carrying out bank transfers and banking;
- Preparing of periodic financial statement and all statutory accounts; and
- Preparing outstanding debts and accounting reports.
Remuneration will be in accordance with NLAS Salary Scale:
NLAS GRADE 6. Ksh. 90,468 x 7,388 – 97,856 x 7,391 – 105,247 x 7,391 – 112,638 x 7,391 – 120,029 x 7,391 – 127,420 x 7,391 – 134,811 x 7,391 – 142,202 p.m.
NOTE: NLAS Grades 1, 2 & 3 are on a three-years contract basis, renewable once while the rest are on permanent and pensionable terms
