    Senior French Translations Officer

    The Role

Whether we are saving lives in times of crises or working with people to create a more equal world without poverty, the impact we are able to make relies to a great extent on the way we engage our staff, donors, other organizations, governments, media and the wider public. Our ability to communicate in the language of our audiences contributes to our effectiveness. Translations is at the heart of this.

Oxfam International is looking for a Senior French Translations Officer to provide high quality translations of communications and technical materials from English into French. Depending on the project, the Translations Officer may translate materials themselves, project manage outsourced translations and/or provide proofreading services.

Oxfam is an international confederation working globally in different languages. Recognizing the importance of this, the Translations Team helps meet the translations needs of such a large international organization. From emergency appeals, media releases, annual reports, program management toolkits, strategic plans, HR materials, to internal communications – the Translations Team works across all of these. Oxfam’s global languages are English, French, Spanish and Arabic. As part of the team, the Senior French Translations Officer plans projects with clients, translates directly from English to French, coordinates translations in all global languages with external suppliers, organizes proofreading, works proactively on quality management and promotes awareness and best practices.

Please see the job description for further details.

    Who we're looking for

Our next Senior French Translations Officer will have a master's degree or equivalent in translation or any other relevant language and be a native French speaker with a new native command of English. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in a translation role, with excellent knowledge and understanding of industry practice. The post holder will need to have great understanding of CAT and terminology management tools. Excellent project, time management skills and communication skills will also be required.
