Senior Lecturer at Laikipia University

Key Duties/Responsibilities: 

• Leads in curriculum development and review process. 
• Develops appropriate learning and teaching materials to ensure effective delivery of the subject matter. 
• Participates in the development of research projects to extend knowledge in the relevant subject area.  
• Participates in the provision of service to the community and the profession. 
• Participates in the translation and implementation of knowledge into practice. 
• Participates in discussion on examination results in departments, schools and senate (where applicable) to ensure effectiveness and general improved performance for each course. 
• Provides expertise in the areas of specialization for income generation programs for the university. 
• Prepares and delivers course outlines material, content to students. 
• Delivers lectures to undergraduates and postgraduate students for knowledge acquisition and the attainment of degrees. 
• Conducts continual evaluation of students’ course work to determine effectiveness of delivery of teaching and assess students’ performance.   
• Maintains accurate records of students’ attendance, assignments and continuous assessments for accountability and advising students on academic improvement strategy. 
• Generates innovation activities and intellectual property in area of specialization;  
• Undertakes academic consultancies; 
• Develops research projects to extend knowledge of the relevant subject area.  
• Undertakes publishing in peer-reviewed articles, books and book chapters.  
• Assesses students’ performance and prepare students’ progress reports to help in decision making in regard to the academic progress of the students in question. 
• Conducts academic seminars at departmental and school levels. 
• Attends senate (where applicable), school, departmental meetings for proper management of the University. 
• Participates in learned conferences, symposia and workshops in the area of specializations;  
• Supervises both postgraduate and undergraduate research works. 
• Undertakes placement and supervision of students on industrial attachment, teaching practice and internship. 
• Keeps up-to-date with current developments in innovation, research and teaching in the specific subject area. 
• Undertakes editorial and review tasks in academic journals, books and book chapters. 
• Conducts internal moderation of exams. 
• Serves as patron to academic clubs’/student organizations. 
• Participates in ad hoc and statutory university committees. 

Academic/Professional Qualifications 

• Master’s degree from an accredited and recognized University in the relevant field. 
• Doctorate degree (PhD) or equivalent Doctoral degree from an accredited and recognized University in the relevant field. 
• Have a minimum of thirty-two (32) publication points, of which at least twenty-four (24) should be from refereed scholarly journals. 
• Supervised at least three (3) postgraduate students to completion as a lecturer or equivalent. 
• Registration for a Doctorate degree (PhD) or equivalent Doctoral degree from an accredited and recognized University in the relevant field. 
• Registration or be registerable by a reputable professional body will be an added advantage. 
• Certificate in Computer Applications from a recognized institution. 
• Served in the Grade of Lecturer or in a comparable position for a minimum period of three (3) years
