Senior Principal Legal/Litigation Officer at National Environment Management Authority (NEMA)

Job Responsibilities

• Assisting the Director Legal Services in providing legal advice to the Authority and ensuring integration of environmental concerns into policy and legislation at all levels;
• Assisting the Director Legal Services in facilitating the development of procedures and regulations for effective implementation of the environmental law;
• Implementing law and advising on legal matters; Participating in review of environmental laws in collaboration with other government institutions and stakeholders;
• Offering technical support to field officers in the enforcement of the environmental law;
• Representing the Authority in judicial and quasi-judicial forums;
• Negotiating and advising on ratification of multilateral environmental agreements;
• Developing and monitoring implementation of departmental work plans and budgets.

Academic Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Law (LLB), or its equivalent qualification from a recognised institution
• Masters degree in Law (LLM), Environmental Law or its equivalent qualification
• Diploma in Law from Kenya School of Law (LSK)
• Must be an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya
• Have a Current Practicing Certificate
• Be a Member of Law Society of Kenya (LSK) or any other relevant body
• Management Course lating not less than 4 weeks from a recognised institution

Experience Required

• Minimum 7 year(s) as a Middle-Level Manager in with relevant work experience
• Minimum 3 year(s) as a Senior-Level Manager in with relevant work experience

General Qualifications

• Proficiency in computer applications
• Good communication skills
• Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results
