Senior Product Designer at Apollo Agriculture

About the Role:

We’re currently looking for a Senior Product Designer to join our Agricultural Product team and lead the design and technical development of income-boosting products for smallholder farmers in Kenya. We want someone who likes to blur the lines between strategy and creative, who combines world-class analytical skills with bias towards action, and who is passionate about bringing market-leading offerings to an underserved customer segment. You will be a core member of a fast growing and interdisciplinary team that includes designers, agronomists, data analysts and product managers. Products you work on will range from input bundles that support farmers to diversify to higher-margin crops to digitally-enabled agronomic advice that improves soil health. Our expectation is you would quickly develop as a leader in the organization, inspiring colleagues to implement solutions that delight customers while improving their livelihood in the process.

Responsibilities:

• Orchestrating and delivering across all areas of a product development challenge, including:
• Conducting data analysis, desk research and expert interviews to scope market opportunities
• Leading field research teams to generate insights on customer needs, aspirations & behaviors
• Managing and reporting on large-scale pilots and field trials
• Engaging engineers in the development of tech solutions
• Evangelizing your solutions to the broader Apollo team.
• Manage project teams that might include an agronomist, data analyst and/or design researcher, ensuring alignment on project aims and processes while supporting professional development.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to generate buy-in for your ideas, from drafting concept notes to elicit senior team feedback to aligning with call centre managers on the right sales approach.
• Work closely the Head of Agricultural Product and the broader Product team to develop and manage the product roadmap.

You are:

• Comfortable making judgements about what will make a product desirable, feasible and viable, at times with limited information.
• Able to analyze and synthesize a range of data, from customer insights to large data sets.
• Impatient to design and launch impactful products for an underserved customer segment.
• Comfortable managing technical team contributions to the development of new products (e.g., engineers, agronomists, UX designers).
• Committed to learning, whether that’s working in a new sector (e.g., smallholder agriculture) or using new tools (e.g., SQL).
• Brilliant communicating in English (and ideally Swahili and/or another language spoken in Kenya).
• Comfortable working in and leading intercultural teams.
• A few years into your career, probably with a leading consultancy, startup or corporate.
