    Sustainable Finance Advisor

    Job Summary

    • The objective of the Sustainable Finance Advisor assignment is to avail a “dedicated green resource” for TDB to provide on an ongoing basis, analysis/ expert advice and guidance to teams on varied aspects of the Bank’s sustainable finance drive, including product development; pipeline; ESG advocacy; operations support; and thought leadership.
    • In addition, the Sustainable Finance Advisor will facilitate TDB’s objective of mobilizing and deploying substantial new thematic capital through an innovative, green product and positioning TDB at the forefront of climate and sustainable finance in sectors including but not limited to energy, health, water and transport in Africa. This assignment will also support the on-going process of strengthening ESG capacity to respond to the new financing instruments and more diverse green portfolio, building on the current ESG Capacity Building Plan.

    Responsibilities

    Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and Group Executive - Corporate Affairs & Investor Relations or his/her designate, the Sustainable Finance Advisor will be required to perform the following duties:

    • Develop the framework for the green project preparation facility and thereafter take responsibility for its implementation, including identifying prospective clients with the purpose of building the green pipeline for financing,
    • Design and implement strategies to accelerate the utilization of TDB’s thematic capital; track and report same to Management.
    • Play a lead role in design, preparation, market sounding, investor mapping and engagement and implementation of the green share product,
    • Cultivate and maintain effective international networks and partnerships with country partners, partner agencies, finance institutions and the private sector,
    • Support TDB’s coverage and lending operations teams during the initial phase to scale up qualifying green deal flow in light of increased green financing.
    • Drive the implementation and alignment of TDB’s Climate strategy across the coverage, lending operations, risk and portfolio management departments,
    • Support implementation of the ESG Capacity Building Plan and provide advice in the identification and prioritization of new key areas of ESG capacity building,
    • Serve as a liaison and thought leader on behalf of TDB in the regional and global sustainable finance community,
    • Participate directly and or enable participation by the President or other Senior Management at key regional and global events with the purpose of enhancing TDB visibility and contributing to the global sustainable finance agenda,
    • Collaborate with existing partners such as US-based Atlantic Council around thought pieces, knowledge products and events that elevate TDB’s profile with investors, support the TDB investment case or create visibility and learning opportunities around TDB’s sustainable finance activities, and
    • Identify opportunities and leverage existing partnerships to create pathways for new partnerships and visibility for TDB in global conference settings such as COP and the World Economic Forum as well as potentially policy settings in North American and Europe.

    Qualifications and Competencies

    • Master's degree in business administration or relevant field, and a minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience, including;
    • Demonstrated track record of green finance product design and development.
    • Experience developing a pipeline of green loan transactions, with particular focus on renewable energy and renewable energy SMEs;
    • Experience spearheading change initiatives inside an institution.
    • Extensive knowledge and work experience across the TDB coverage areas;
    • Excellent knowledge of the global finance architecture and established regional and global network in sustainable finance.
    • Excellent writing and communication skills, capacity for strategy and thought leadership in the area of climate and sustainable finance and the SDGs and ability to represent TDB and the President in a variety of fora.
