Job Purpose
The Senior Technical Operator Coordinator provides advanced technical leadership and operational oversight across recycling plant operations. The role is responsible for optimizing machinery performance, coordinating senior technical operators, ensuring operational continuity, enforcing HSE standards, and driving efficiency, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives within the Recycling Department.
This position serves as the technical authority on shift/plant level, acting as the key link between operators, maintenance teams, and management.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Operational Leadership
- Provide senior-level coordination and supervision of technical operators across all recycling processes (sorting, shredding, washing, extrusion, baling, etc.).
- Ensure optimal utilization, performance, and uptime of recycling machinery and plant equipment.
- Lead shift planning, task allocation, and technical troubleshooting to meet daily and monthly production targets.
- Act as the escalation point for complex technical and operational issues.
Equipment Performance & Asset Management
- Monitor machine performance indicators (uptime, efficiency, output quality) and initiate corrective actions.
- Coordinate preventive and predictive maintenance schedules in collaboration with the Maintenance Team.
- Ensure proper commissioning, calibration, and shutdown procedures for all equipment.
- Maintain accurate equipment logs, breakdown reports, and root cause analyses (RCA).
Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement
- Identify operational inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and losses within recycling workflows.
- Lead process improvement initiatives to increase throughput, reduce downtime, minimize rejects, and improve material recovery rates.
- Support implementation of new technologies, machinery upgrades, and SOP improvements.
- Champion lean operations, 5S, and continuous improvement culture on the shop floor.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure recycled output meets internal quality standards and customer specifications.
- Implement quality control checks at key stages of the recycling process.
- Investigate quality deviations and lead corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Leadership
- Enforce strict compliance with HSE policies, SOPs, and statutory regulations.
- Lead toolbox talks, safety briefings, and incident investigations.
- Promote safe work practices, proper PPE usage, and environmental compliance (spill prevention, waste segregation, emissions control).
- Support audits and inspections by internal and external stakeholders.
People Management & Capability Building
- Mentor, coach, and develop technical operators and junior coordinators.
- Conduct on-the-job training, skills assessments, and performance feedback.
- Support performance appraisals and succession planning for technical roles.
- Promote discipline, accountability, and teamwork within the technical teams.
Reporting & Management Support
- Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly operational and technical reports.
- Track KPIs including machine uptime, productivity, quality output, and safety performance.
- Provide technical insights and recommendations to management for decision-making.
- Participate in production planning, budgeting inputs, and operational review meetings.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical/Mechatronics Engineering
- Industrial Technology
- Or a related technical discipline
Experience
- Minimum 6–8 years of progressive experience in industrial operations, recycling, manufacturing, or processing plants.
- At least 3 years in a senior supervisory or coordination role.
- Proven experience managing complex machinery and leading technical teams.
