    Landscape Consultant

    Tasks and Responsibilities:

    Under the supervision of the Programme Management Officer, Biodiversity, People and Landscape Unit (BPL), the consultant is expected to produce and deliver, the following 4 knowledge products:

    • Undertake field visit to Cambodia and China to undertake Tasks 2, 3 and 4 to obtain relevant information for the reports, and to facilitate a workshop to integrate learning into community actions in future.
    • Undertake a brief survey (see draft on page 3/ to gain a structured understanding for the stocktaking and as a basis for MEL (Fin) for 2 landscapes in China and Cambodia. This will provide a basis for evaluation and structured learning to deliver on Task 3.
    • Stocktaking exercise on existing tools and methodologies in the regions and proposed MEL methodologies for 2 landscapes in China and Cambodia in terms o
      • Monitoring, evaluation and learning methods that could be applied: what is out there that may be relevant
      •  Evaluation criteria for the specific sites
      •  Proposed MEL methodology
      •  MEL Methodology Report
    • Impacts of landscape approaches from elsewhere and experiences of the pilot sites in China and Cambodia
      • Overview and results
      • What worked in the specific sites and what did not
      • Recommendations for LCs & for subsequent programmes integrated into Final Reports on Lessons learning

    Qualifications/special skills

    Academic Qualifications:

    • Advanced University degree in physical science, natural resource management, conservation ecology or a related subject is required.

    Experience:

    • A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in international development, programme development, community based natural resource management, local and indigenous knowledge and institutions, ecosystem risk assessment and ecosystem-based approaches to adaptation is required.

    Language: English and French are working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post fluency English is required. Knowledge of French, Spanish and/or Portuguese would be an asset. .
