Global concerns for sustainability in agricultural and manufacturing sectors are mounting the pressure for producers, processors and traders to embrace production methods that minimize negative impact on the environment, produce safe products and offer decent employment to workers. In response to these demands, global voluntary standards are increasingly being formed to guide the production and manufacturing processes with an aim of ensuring sustainability.
It is against this backdrop that REACT CERT AFRICA LIMITED (RCA) was formed to offer certification services to the various standards in the market. React Cert Africa is an independent company run by a supervisory board and Certification Director.
Affiliations
React Cert is affiliated to the founders and directors of Tradecare Africa a limited liability company under the Kenya Companies Act. It is one of the few private local legal entities established as a social enterprise offering supply chain services for sustainable trade development. These services are available and accessible to all levels of businesses, development agencies, producer organizations, traders, financial service providers and input suppliers in commodity supply chains.
In 2013, Tradecare Africa adopted the use of certification standards as a key guide for sustainable trade development in various fields. The company singled out commodity/products certification as tool for measuring business suitability through compliance to various standards. It is on this basis that Tradecare AFRICA realized that certification services were not readily available and/or accessible in the market. This culminated in the formation of REACT CERT AFRICA LIMITED (RCA), a legally registered company to offer ISO/IEC 17065:2012 accredited product certification services.
RCA aims at offering certification services, initially limiting itself to GLOBAL GAP. These services will be readily available and accessible in East, Central, West and Southern Africa. The scopes will be expanded as the company and business grows, and in line with the customer’s requirements.
RCA is expected to finance its operations from the fee charged for the various services that the company will offer.
