    Assistant Manager, Purchasing & Supply Chain Management

    Job Summary

    Reporting to the Manager OPEX, Purchasing and Supplies Management Division (PSCMD), the Assistant Manager, Group Purchase & Health Network Purchase Program, will coordinate the purchase of OPEX items, and initiate contracts with major suppliers at agreed prices, terms and conditions. S/he will maintain steady supplies for most items and any other group purchase-related activities as assigned by the Manager and/or Director, PSCMD and Senior Leadership Team.

    Responsibilities

    • Source, select and negotiate for the best purchase package in terms of quality, prices, terms of services, deliveries and services with the suppliers.
    • Negotiate for best discounts on trade prices for all stock and non-stock items while ensuring products of best quality and standards as per the regulatory requirements.
    • Approve purchase orders in accordance with Purchasing and Supply Management Division policies and procedures.
    • Assist in managing and following up local, regional and import purchases in case of delays or stock-outs.
    • Meet with staff and vendors to discuss issues arising and maintain smooth relationships between the two groups.
    • Source for new suppliers for better quality products and better prices.
    • Interview vendors and visit suppliers’ plants and distribution centres to examine and learn about products, services, and prices.
    • Evaluate suppliers based on price, quality and delivery time.
    • Evaluate and monitor contracts to ensure that vendors and suppliers comply with the terms and conditions of the contract and determine need for changes.
    • Attend meetings, CMCs and conferences to learn about new industry trends and make contacts with suppliers.
    • Identify high-value and fast-moving product lines, negotiate prices and draw contracts for fixed period with the most suitable distributor.
    • Monitor and coordinate with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery.

    Qualification

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or procurement-related field.
    • CIPS, CILT or KISM Higher Diploma will give added advantage.
    • Minimum of 5 years work experience in the field of supply chain management in healthcare institutions.
    • KISM membership and KISM licence are mandatory requirements.
    • Demonstrable experience in inventory systems.
    • Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
    • Enthusiastic team player, comfortable working in a team-based environment.
    • Commendable negotiation skills and conflict resolution skills.
    • Good analytical, documentation and organizational skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Unquestionable integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality.
    • Professional attitude and strong work ethic with attention to details and timeliness.

    Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, Paediatrics and Child Health

    Job Summary

    AKU-Paediatrics and Child Health Department is seeking a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist who will undertake clinical and educational functions under the supervision of the Section Head. In this role, the incumbent will admit, consult and undertake diagnosis and treatment of patients admitted under the University team or private admitting doctors. S/he may prescribe or request certain tests or perform certain procedures without supervision but should consult and involve other relevant specialties for more complex diagnostic or management issues. As the admitting doctor for relevant subspecialty cases, the incumbent ultimately determines what direct management is provided to patients admitted under them and provides appropriate supervision for all cadres of doctors and nurses involved in care.

    Responsibilities

    The Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist will:

    • Assess and manage patients
    • Attend to emergency cases
    • Educate patients on wellness prevention and early detection of risk factors for disease(s)
    • Participate in establishing various planning parameters for addressing referral cases received at AKUH,N.
    • Initiate the review and development of appropriate policies and procedures for patients’ healthcare to formulate best practice guidelines
    • Participate in departmental research and academic activities, institutional quality improvement and patient safety activities

    Requirements

    • Must have Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery(M.B.Ch.B) or equivalent
    • MMed in Psychiatry
    • Certified and verifiable training fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry from a recognized university
    • Be registered by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board as a specialist
    • Have valid Emergency Life Support (BLS)
    • Demonstrate competency and dexterity in clinical practice
    • Be able to work under minimal supervision, observe punctuality and respect commitments made
    • Demonstrate honesty, integrity, compassion and respect for diversity and applies ethical principles appropriately
