    Audit Manager

    The Audit Manager is responsible for managing internal audit assignments in accordance with the approved annual audit plan. The Audit Manager will be responsible for the identification and reporting on all significant control weaknesses, through the application of a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, internal controls and governance processes within the Bank.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Assist in the development and implementation of a risk-based annual internal audit plan aligned with the Bank 's strategic objectives and risk profile.
    • Assist in the development and implementation of a risk-based annual internal audit plan aligned with the Bank
    • Identifying skills and competencies required to deliver the annual plan and being responsive to the rapidly changing risk profile of the Bank.
    • Taking ownership, responsibility for his/her portfolio and engaging with the business actively before, during and after the audit.
    • Allocate the assignments under the internal audit plan to respective audit teams in liaison with the General Manager.
    • Oversee audit planning, field work, and audit reporting; prepare reports and communicate findings and recommendations to Senior Management.
    • Review draft reports, provide feedback on the quality of the reports, draft findings and additional areas to be analysed.
    • On a monthly basis, prepare briefs on audit status in terms of coverage and emerging issues to the General Manager.
    • Regularly meet with departmental heads to present audit findings and agree on corrective actions and timelines for implementation.
    • Conduct follow-up audits to monitor management’s interventions.
    • Assist the General Manager to prepare Board Papers as required.
    • Undertaking performance evaluation, training and development of internal audit staff and ensuring quality standards are upheld. The Manager will ensure that staff are appraised (at least quarterly) and the results discussed with the General Manager.
    • Ensure Audit staff engage in continuous knowledge development regarding banking sector’s rules, regulations, best practices, tools, techniques and performance standards.
    • Induction of new staff into the department.
    • Provide administrative support to audit staff as required.
    • Perform administrative roles assigned by the GM from time to time.
    • Leverage technology throughout all audit and administrative processes with a goal to maximize efficiency and improve audit effectiveness.
    • Mentor, train and develop audit staff.

    ACADEMIC & PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or business administration.
    • Masters will be an added advantage
    • CPA (K) or its equivalent.
    • Proficiency with CAATs like Alteryx, TeamMate, PowerBI.
    • Proficiency in use of MS Office applications.

    CRITICAL SKILLS & COMPETENCES

    • At least 8 years internal or external audit experience gained from reputable institutions.
    • Demonstrated in-depth understanding of the internal audit process, internal controls and risk assessment.
    • Great customer focus skills and attention to details.
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication and report writing skills.
    • Ability to work with diverse teams and to adapt to fast changing environment.

    Assistant Manager - Audit

    The Assistant Manager will support the internal audit function to achieve its goals and objectives by using effective, contemporary audit practices and methodologies to achieve the agreed internal audit objectives. Responsible for developing and implementing audit plans and programs to ensure adequate controls are established by business units. The Assistant manager oversees various areas of audit planning, audit execution, audit supervision, audit communication and management of complex audit engagements. The Assistant manager will work closely with audit managers.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

    • Supervision of senior internal audit officers/audit officers during execution of audit engagements
    • Management of audit assignments and providing leadership to the audit team
    • Being the liaison person between the audit customers and audit team, leading teams during entry and exit conferences to agree on audit objectives, scope, recommendations and implementation schedules
    • Developing programs and work plans for evaluating internal controls and ensuring that they meet international Auditing standards and assignment objectives.
    • Identifying business risks and control weaknesses, assessing their likelihood of occurrence and potential impact and making recommendations to management to mitigate the risks.
    • Appraising the soundness, adequacy, application and efficiency of accounting and operational controls established to mitigate business risks
    • Ensuring audit work is documented, reviewed and signed off in teammate.
    • Ensuring that audit findings are supported by sufficient, reliable and relevant audit evidence.
    • Discussing audit issues with the process owners and ensuring that their responses including corrective action plans are agreed on.
    • Preparing timely and clear audit reports in line with auditing standards.
    • Assisting audit managers to prepare Board Papers.
    • Carrying out adhoc assignments e.g investigations.
    • General administrative duties as may be assigned from time to timey.

    Qualifications

    CRITICAL SKILLS & COMPETENCES

    • Excellent understanding of Audit standards and international standards in accounting.
    • Should have experience of between 4 to 6 years cumulatively gained from internal audit or external audit.
    • Knowledge of business operations, macro environment and control environment.
    • Good understanding of banking regulations
    • Excellent knowledge of bank products and processes
    • Team leader  with good interpersonal skills
    • Should have good logical and analytical skills
    • Above average knowledge in IT and applications controls
    • Proficiency in data analysis
    • Excellent report writing skills
    • Ability to work under minimum supervision and demonstrate a good level of maturity
    • Strong problem solving skills

    ACADEMIC & PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

    • University degree or equivalent (preferably in Commerce or Business-related field)
    • CPA or ACCA qualification
    • CIA and CISA is an added advantage
