    Bridge Kenya is a life-changing community school program. It is one of four community school programmes run as part of NewGlobe’s education portfolio.

    Bridge Kenya opened its first school in Nairobi’s Mukuru Kwa Njenga, in 2009. Now, it supports community schools across 43 of the 47 counties. Bridge Kenya partners with communities, parents and teachers to deliver life-changing education and provide a gateway to success for underserved families. 

    Since 2015, Bridge Kenya’s national (KCPE) exam results have continued to prove academic excellence, significantly outperforming national averages. Community school graduates have gone to top secondary schools and universities; both within Kenya and the US.
     

    About the Role

    The Construction Supervisor is responsible for the construction activities for the allocated school sites. This includes ensuring that prior arrangements are made for effective project start up, smooth work progress and payments, effective decision making and finalized project close-out. You will also be responsible for the liaison between the school sites and the headquarters in terms of information flows and record keeping. This is a full time fixed term role.

    What You Will Do

    • Site Appraisal: Carry out initial site visit, document the site characteristics, evaluate the implications of site conditions to construction and prepare a report.
    • Project Start-up: Carry out all tasks that are necessary for the construction to commence effectively and complete the start-up checklist for approval.
    • Contract management: Prepare standard contract for site specific issues, discuss it with headquarters and manage it throughout the construction period.
    • Materials management: Prepare the standard schedule of materials, prepare materials requisitions, confirm orders and deliveries, ensure proper materials acceptance procedures are duly applied, retrieve from site and forward to headquarters the delivery notes and invoices, request payments and file away the payment acknowledgement.
    • Labour management: Source qualified skilled and unskilled laborers, manage labour records, manage labour payments, retrieve from site and forward to headquarters the invoices and time sheets, request payments and file away the payment acknowledgement.
    • Programme Management: Carry out day-to-day monitoring of progress of work on site, such as repairs, demolitions, tracking to ensure project targets are met, planning and implementing remedial measures in case of programme slippage, including feedback information for programme improvement. Carry out early morning daily calls, prepare daily email reports and prepare weekly work programmes.
    • Workmanship and Quality Control: Communicate the quality standards, implement procedures to ensure that work meets them, monitor and provide feedback information for improved quality.
    • Payments: Compute or modify budget estimates for approval, prepare payment requests for approval, confirm and record payments completed and balances and file away the payment acknowledgement.
    • Records Management: Implement the proper entering and updating of site records including the site book, invoices, time sheets and prepare summary reports as required.
    • Labour Relations: Ensure the employment of only desirable workers on the school sites, maintain smooth labour relations and provide feedback information for improved quality.

    What You Should Have

    • Bachelor Degree or Higher Diploma in Building, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying or related field.
    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in site supervision on busy sites preferably in labour intensive project.
    • Should have good knowledge of basic construction technology and practices.
    • Should be a good planner, well organized and able to carry out simple analysis tasks.
    • Should be able to source skilled labour locally and handle labour-related issues arising on site from time to time.
    • Excellent writing and oral communication skills are required.
    • Good people management skills that result in timely meeting of deadlines.
    • Ability and willingness to accept instructions, accept criticism and positive feedback, while being very adaptable and flexible.
    • Flexibility and willingness to travel to various school sites across Kenya.

    Quality Inspector, Construction

    About the Role

    You will be responsible for inspecting construction sites to ensure the work meets Bridge quality standards. The Inspector must work in conjunction with the construction supervisors to ensure the timeliness of project construction and completion as well as the adherence to provided specifications. The role requires frequent travel from one construction site to another. This is a full time fixed term role.

    What You Will Do

    • Responsible for maintaining quality and consistent construction management practices at all our schools.
    • Work in conjunction with the construction supervisors and the foremen to ensure the timeliness of project construction and completion as well as the adherence to provided specifications.
    • Construction work supervision for allocated school sites.
    • Carry out detailed initial site survey including site analysis.
    • Measure existing facilities and prepare measured drawings.
    • Prepare, maintain and update detailed schedules of completed work.
    • Develop a report that captures the work status, labor usage and material status for all the sites assigned.

    What You Should Have

    Director, Operations - Kenya

    The Operations Team is responsible for the execution, and management of the entire sequence of processes required to service the activities of each school, and to provide that support at scale in the most cost efficient and effective way possible. It is the nerve center of the work that is done in any region, and is the interface that brings all school-level support functions together through it's different departments - Customer Care, Revenue Assurance, Facilities and Supplies, Instructional Oversight, Quality Assurance, IT Operations, and Supply Chain. The Operations Leadership is responsible for providing overall leadership to the team, through the supervision of all routine tasks, coordination between all teams, oversight of all systems, processes, and data capturing, and ensuring that the work done by the team is done in the most efficient and cost effective way possible to enable us to better service our parents and government partners, provide a better experience for our employees, and a stable platform on which we continue to scale our work.

    The schools run by Bridge, have to operate in the most efficient and effective way possible to enable us to provide life changing education that is affordable to families living below the poverty line, and to governments with limited resources.  This means there is no room for waste and inefficiencies.      About the Role

    1. The Director, Operations is responsible for setting up the processes, systems and staff to ensure operational performance of the entire network of schools. This includes supply chain, quality assurance and customer care, revenue assurance, facilities and supplies,Instructional oversight and IT Operations.
    2. Programme Management - managing programme managers responsible for everything from preventative fraud management, facilities and repairs, instructional and academic delivery through systems compliance
    3. Supply Chain - overseeing our warehousing, inventory management, procurement and logistics, making sure every school has all the resources needed in the most cost-effective and efficient way possible, while negotiating with global suppliers;
    4. Quality Assurance (QA) - our internal data-driven, field-based audit and monitoring team. The QA team is the auditing arm of our academy operations (facilities, materials & supplies, personnel and processes) against set standards and policies to ensure total compliance.
    5. Customer Care Call Centre - provides telephonic and online issue resolution support to parents, school staff, community members and members of the general public. This department is the first line resolution center for any and all issues that may arise at the school, or community-level. The team manages multiple contact channels (such as phone, email, whatsapp, and the web) to handle inquiries, and provide resolution. The team also works closely with all departments to ensure that all issues not resolved by them are escalated to the appropriate department within the organization for prompt resolution.
    6. IT Operations - is responsible for last mile delivery of technology, ensuring that everyone from school staff to executives, all have the functioning technology they need to excel at their jobs. It also oversees the technical infrastructure that supports and connects all of our global offices, as well as the back-office systems that power our customer care centres, finance teams, warehouses, and more.
    7. You will be responsible for ensuring every school operates effectively; That school staff are supported by being provided with the correct tech assets, learning materials and teaching supplies; That an accurate count of all learning materials and supplies is maintained; That instructional delivery runs effectively by ensuring accurate forecast of learning material needs, proper maintenance of existing inventory and on time delivery of projected quantities; That the provision of service to ensure all issues are captured and resolved, is carried out in a prompt, professional and caring manner; and That continuous data collection and analyses is used to quality assure and drive process improvements
    8. This is a high-impact role for someone who loves standing up systems and processes from the ground up and taking on challenges on a large scale.

    What You Will Do

    1. Manage a diverse support team including customer care, quality assurance, IT, programme managers, procurement, warehousing and logistics.

    10. Do or lead every job in the entire academy operations and support to some extent. No job is too big or too small.

     What You Should Have

    1. At least 8+ years of post-undergraduate, full time work experience
    2. Work experience managing a multi-unit retail environment
    3. Work experience in emerging markets
    4. Work experience, preferably in operations, as an employee at any company that has rapidly grown in headcount and number of locations, e.g., large scale retail
    5. Work experience in a fast-paced environment with dynamic priorities and demands

    What You Will Do

    • Separations Process: lead and "quarterback" separations processes, including department, asset, and financial handovers - involves IT, Admin, and Payroll Accountant
    • Onboarding Process: lead and "quarterback" teams from IT, Admin, etc. in ensuring that staff are successfully on boarded
    • Payroll Verification: work with Payroll Accountant to ensure that all contractors and employees are properly represented with the right deductions/additions, if any. Generate monthly report for managers on headcount
    • Staff Benefits: supporting staff with questions about health coverage, managing additions to coverage, dealing with other health coverage issues
    • Asset Management: ensure that all staff have the assets they need; deal with asset recovery processes and exchanges/one-off needs. Heavy interfacing with IT and Admin
    • Leave Management: assist employees with leave, generate monthly report for managers on leave balances
    •   Disciplinary Procedures: work with the HR Director on managing these procedures
    •   Appeals, Grievances, Investigations: lead these processes with some direction from the HR Director
    •  Staff Documentation: ensuring that offer letters, contracts, probation confirmations, and change of status documents are appropriately handled
