    Charge Nurse – Critical Care Unit

    Ref: TNH/HRD/CNCCU/04/2020

    Reporting to Assistant Director Nursing Services, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following amongst others:

    Main Duties & Responsibilities

    Operational

    • Championing continual quality improvement.
    • Maintaining the Hospitals’ policies, standard and procedures of nursing care to the critically ill patients.
    • Controlling resources effectively
    • Maintaining and observing infection control measures for staff and patients wellbeing.
    • Upholding statutory regulations as required by nursing profession and the laws of Kenya.
    • Participating in ward and hospital activities i. e research, audits, CSR, open days.
    • Preparing departmental Budget.
    • Identifying present and potential needs of the department and assisting in formulating courses of action to meet patient needs.

    Tactical

    • Responding to Emergency alerts.
    • Utilizing advanced technology in Invasive patient monitoring.
    • Advocating for patients, treating them with dignity, according them privacy and respect.
    • Communicating effectively with patients, patients’ families and all other patients’ care givers.
    • Communicating effectively with doctors and other hospital departments for cooperative and supportive relationships.
    • Preparing the monthly Rotation for staff, vacation and their daily assignment of duties.
    • Utilizing the available resources effectively for quality service delivery, profitability and cost containment.
    • Providing accurate documentation and proper record keeping of patients’ treatment.
    • Maintains, monthly and quarterly statistics.
    • Providing input to determine manpower for the department.
    • Monitoring the performance of the nurses & attendants in the department.
    • Ensuring regular maintenance is performed on all equipment and communicate with the Biomedical/Maintenance Engineering.
    • Responsible for all equipment on the CCU inventory and for ordering supplies and for recommending on the needs of the Department.
    • Protecting all confidential information concerning the hospital, patients and to make disclosure only with patient and Chief Executive Officer’s permission.
    • Investigating patients’ complaints and incidents promptly in accordance with the Hospital procedures, and reporting within the same shift.
    • Performing any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

    Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

    • KRN, KRN/KRM, KRCHN, BSc. Nursing
    • Higher diploma in Critical Care Nursing
    • Minimum of 7 years post clinical nursing.
    • Management / Supervisory skills training, Good managerial skills, Mentorship training.
    • BLS & ACLS certified.
    • Good interpersonal skills, communication skills and customer care skills.

    Specialist – Radiology

    Ref: TNH/HRD/SR/04/2020

    Reporting to Chief Radiologist, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following amongst others:

    • Reporting of imaging studies in communication with the clinical teams. These studies include general radiography, ultrasound, mammography, cross-sectional imaging and fluoroscopy. Additional expertise in basic imaging-guided interventional procedures would be an added advantage.
    • Continuous supervision and education of imaging technologists in the department to ensure good customer experiences, economical use of imaging equipment/consumables and excellent diagnostic image quality in all modalities.
    • Active member of the multidisciplinary health care team and contribute to the continuing professional development programs in the hospital.
    • Development and review of imaging pathways and protocols in the various imaging modalities in line with departmental quality improvement.
    • Observing all the standard operating procedures within the department. These include communication of critical findings within agreed time limits and adhering to laid out expected report turnaround times.
    • Maintaining patient confidentiality and professional work ethic.
    • Carrying out on the job training and mentorship of senior registrars in the specialist recognition program as well as instruction of radiology residents on external rotation within the hospital.
    • Enhance evidence-based practice in the department. Participate in and spearhead hospital-based research activities.

    Qualifications, Skills & Experience

    • Masters of Medicine in Radiology from a CUE (Commission for University Education) recognized institution
    • Specialist Recognition from Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board
    • Valid registration and annual practice licenses
    • At least 4 years work experience post-specialist recognition
    • Sound diagnostic skills
    • Proficiency in I.T. with regards to PACS/RIS and remote reporting access
    • Strong interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills
    • Certification in BLS

    Senior Pharmacist (Stores)

    Ref: TNH/HRD/S0/04/2020

    Reporting to Chief Pharmacist, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following amongst others:

    • Providing leadership to the pharmacy stores and ensuring efficient and effective provision of excellent services to user departments while executing/implementing pharmacy operational procedures.
    • Assisting the Procurement & Stores Manager in coordinating the day to day operations of the Pharmacy Stores as guided by the procurement policy manual.
    • Ensuring timely and efficient delivery of medicines to all user departments.
    • Setting, reviewing operationalising suitable reorder levels and implementing systems to ensure no stock outs.
    • Developing and maintaining appropriate pharmacy stores controls and security measures in pharmacy stores and reporting any security concerns regarding stocks and the stock management system immediately to Purchasing & Supplies Manager
    • Ensuring proper lay out and arrangement of pharmacy stores for ease of receipt and issuance of drugs and, to aid proper stock arrangement and security controls.
    • Carrying out regular inspections of medicine storage areas within the pharmacy store and other auxiliary medicine stores including theatres, ICU and A&E to ensure that appropriate drug issuance and storage regulations are adhered to.
    • Establishing and maintaining effective channels of communication between Procurement & Supplies and other departments.
    • Ensuring that procured medicines meet the highest quality standards at all times.
    • Establishing and maintaining a system for ensuring no short expiry drugs are received and ensuring that monitoring and return of short expiry medicines is adhered to in line with the Hospital’s Short Expiry Drug Policy.
    • Ensuring that pharmaceutical and related substances are stored under conditions which conform to statutory and manufacturers’ requirements.
    • Ensuring that medicines requiring cold storage are kept in designated refrigerators, there is daily monitoring of the fridge temperatures and that action is taken if the temperature is outside the normal range.
    • Ensuring that controlled drugs are stored and handled in compliance with the requirements of the Psychotropics and Narcotics Drugs Act and the published regulations of Pharmacy & Poisons Board.
    • Putting in place a system of measuring operational performance indicators of work systems and effectiveness including service turnaround time and supplier performance. Ensuring that medicines are managed in an efficient and effective way in order to control and reduce inventory costs.
    • Ensuring that random and quarterly stock takes are carried out and that any variances are promptly reported, investigated.
    • Supervision and appraisal of staff working at the pharmacy stores
    • To keep close contact with the Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya, the Ministry of Health and other professional bodies ensuring that the department is kept abreast with all new developments in the pharmaceutical field.
    • Carrying out any other duty as may be assigned from time to time.

    Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy
    • Registration with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
    • Minimum of 10 years working experience in hospital, retail or industrial practice
    • Possession of valid annual practicing license.
    • Good supervisory qualities.
    • Excellent organization skills
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills
    • High level of integrity
    • Training or competence in supply chain management or warehousing will be an added advantage.

    Specialist –Clinical Oncologist

    Ref: TNH/HRD/SCO/04/2020

    Reporting to the Director Medical Services and Research the successful candidate will be responsible for the following amongst others:

    • Managing and treating cancer patients in coordination with the other departmental staff throughout the entire course of cancer treatment.
    • Collecting medical histories and performing physical evaluations in addition to basic administrative duties, such as maintaining records, coordinating with other medical personnel, to offer treatment to patients.
    • Investigate and request appropriate investigations and able to interpret them in order to select appropriate oncologic treatment options.
    • Prescribing various types of treatment, such as chemotherapy, medications and targeted hormonal therapy.
    • Treatment of cancer patients using advanced treatment technology like IMRT, VMAT, intra-cavity/interstitial Brachytherapy, 3D Conformal Radiotherapy and manipulation of computer based tools in achieving treatment goals.
    • Performing procedures to treat regions of the body affected by cancer treatment.
    • Writing prescriptions, providing specific cancer information to patients, monitoring treatment plans and improving patients’ quality of life.
    • Explaining cancer development stages to patients, discussing treatment options and assisting in symptom management.
    • Caring for patients throughout the entire course of cancer treatment, from diagnosis to recovery or death.
    • Ensure quality assurance is achieved on equipment, accessories and treatment plans to enhance patient safety
    • Maintain accurate database of patient information and treatment plans.
    • Active participation in Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings and able to consult widely with other sub specialty in Oncology for the best interest of the patient.
    • Be research oriented and able to enhance evidence based practice
    • Any other duty assigned from time to time.

    Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

    • Masters of Medicine in Clinical Oncology.
    • Specialist Recognition from Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council
    • Valid registration and annual practice license
    • Minimum experience (over 5 years)
    • Sound diagnostic skills and judgment
    • Valid license from Kenya Radiation Protection Board with prior experience of working with linear accelerators and simulation equipment
    • Delivery of radiotherapy in a facility equipped with Image Modulated Radiation Therapy, Prostate brachytherapy Volumetric Arc Therapy and Radio-Iodine Treatment will be an added advantage
