    Plumber

     Job Description

    Tangaza University College is moving towards becoming a full university. As befits an institution of higher learning, we are committed to academic excellence and the personal transformation of our students, both lay and religious. The following vacancy have arisen within the University College and requires to be filled:

    DEPARTMENT: Administration
    REPORTS TO: Administration Officer
    EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Contract

    POSITION SUMMARY

    As the Plumber, your main responsibility is to maintain all the plumbing works thereby promoting good sanitation.

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Detailed JD will be given on appointment)

    • Ensures that all plumbing equipment’s are well maintained.
    • Liaises with the college Store Keeper on items and equipment’s required.
    • Installs and repairs all items and equipment’s related to plumbing.
    • Installs and maintains all piping systems within the college.
    • Ensures that all sanitation systems are properly functioning.
    • Reports any breakages/ damages to the Administration Officer for repair.
    • Performs any other duties as may be required of him/her.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    • Professional certificate in a relevant field and 3 years’ experience or
    • Diploma and 2 years’ experience.

    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Be familiar with the required Health & Safety standards governing the plumbing role
    • Experience in bore hole pumps
    • Strong knowledge in all aspects of plumbing repairs, maintenance and improvements and excellent problem – solving skills needed to complete jobs and tasks in a timely manner.
    • Thorough knowledge in plumbing fixtures and systems to support the renovations, repair and maintenance of premises mechanical installations.
    • Excellent customer service skills, professional presentation and appearance;
    • Ability and confidence to accurately estimate labour and material costs to estimate jobs for repair and maintenance works;

    Executive Secretary to the DVC’s

    DEPARTMENT: Academic and Administration
    REPORTS TO: DVC Academic and Student Affairs & DVC Administration and Finance
    EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Contract
    HOURS OF WORK: The job holder might be required to work beyond normal working hours with no overtime pay.

    OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY:
    The Executive Secretary will be expected to provide a high level confidential and professional administrative support to the Deputy Vice Chancellors’ Office. The role will act as a central point of contact and provide all necessary support and assistance for the Deputy Vice Chancellor’s and the efficient running of the Offices.

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Detailed JD will be given on appointment)

    • To maintain daily schedules and coordination of the Deputy Vice Chancellor’s Office commitments.
    • To arrange and coordinate appointments and meetings for the Deputy Vice Chancellor’s
    • Provide high level secretarial support to the Deputy Vice Chancellor’s including responsibility for:
      • Diary management
      • Day to day communications (telephone, email, received correspondence) with internal and external stakeholders.
      • Draft correspondence
      • Proofing Deputy Vice-Chancellor’s reports and documents
      • Undertake general research and documentation of material at the request of the DVC’s and prepare written reports and data tables as required
    • Support the University in preparation of reports for the University Trustees and committees of the University council as required by the Supervisors
    • Ensure follow up with the relevant Officers on implementation of action points from the governance organs and University Management meetings
    • To act as secretary to the Executive and DVC committee meetings (internal and external) working with the Chair to proactively provide timely agenda and minutes and appropriate follow up.
    • Establish and monitor follow up / actions required from the Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor’s to respond to various university boards, as well as their sub committees to ensure deadlines are met.
    • Assist in the implementation of the university strategic plan
    • To make all logistical arrangements including travel, for the Deputy Vice Chancellor’s
    • To manage accurately and efficiently to all enquiries from the Deputy Vice Chancellor’s and those who report to them.
    • To deal with sometimes distressing situations on behalf of the Deputy Vice Chancellor’s and Student Experience, as first point of contact.
    • To appropriately execute any other duties as directed by the Deputy Vice Chancellor’s, or other senior university

    ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

    • An earned Master's Degree in Business Administration or any other related field
    • A minimum working experience of 3 years working with top management staff
    • Must be highly proficient with multiple Microsoft office systems and other related Software

    SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

    • Excellent communicator, a good listener and dedicated to detail.
    • A wide exposure, broad knowledge and up to date with current University affairs.
    • Able to work perfectly under strict deadlines and pressure.
    • Able to take up emergency assignments and perform them effectively.

    Accounts Assistant

    DEPARTMENT: Finance
    REPORTS TO: Finance Manager
    EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Contract

    POSITION SUMMARY

    As the Accounts Assistant, your main responsibility is to give students receipts and statements as well as deal with suppliers, pay them, handle reconciliations and issue cheques.

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Detailed JD will be given on appointment)

    • Booking Suppliers invoices in the system
    • Receipting
    • Preparing Suppliers payment vouchers when due
    • Filing statutory deductions i.e. PAYE, NSSF, NHIF, WHT
    • Filing
    • Bank Reconciliation
    • Invoicing
    • Raising approved debit and credit notes on students accounts
    • Handling of students installment payments
    • Any other duties assigned by your supervisor as per your qualification

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    • Minimum-B.Com/BA in Finance/Accounting
    • If registered for CPA/ACCA will be an added advantage

    • Proficiency with computers and bookkeeping software, strong typing skills.
    • Exceptional time management and verbal and written communication skills.

    Secretary

    DEPARTMENT: School of Theology
    REPORTS TO: Dean School Of Theology
    EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Contract

    POSITION SUMMARY

    Provide an efficient and responsive secretarial and administrative support to the Dean School of Theology.


    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Detailed JD will be given on appointment)

    • Welcomes all visitors who come to the Theology Office.
    • Assists in the preparation of the Theology Department Budget.
    • Coordinates the Theology symposium.
    • Attends to all enquires by Theology Students.
    • Records Theology marks from lecturers

    • Coordinates communication between the Director, Students and Lectures within the Faculty of Theology, other Institutes and various offices.
    • Assists in the preparation of comprehensive tutorials and examinations.
    •  Any other duties as may be required of him/her.

    ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Higher National Diploma in Secretarial. A Bachelors degree will be an added advantage.
    • 3 years’ experience preferably in an institution of higher learning.

    Library Assistant

    DEPARTMENT: Library
    REPORTS TO: Chief Librarian
    EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Contract

    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Library Assistant is responsible for the provision of information services to support the teaching, learning and research activities of staff and students within the University.

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Detailed JD will be given on appointment)

    • Perform original and copy cataloguing of all formats of library materials i.e. entering bibliographic information of the information materials into the library database to facilitate their identification, access, and use.
    • Is responsible for classification of reading materials & assigning information materials their various subjects or descriptors; assigning classification numbers.
    • Assists in the maintenance of the library’s catalogue, including creation and editing of bibliographic records Maintains professional cataloguing standards, including monitoring and staying current with OCLC, MARC, RDA, LCSH, AACR2.
    • Assists with answering basic cataloguing questions.
    • Assists as needed with physically processing materials
    • Perform other collection maintenance activities including Inventory, Weeding and minor repair of damaged documents
    • Assist with collection development and circulation desk activities, as requested.
    • Conducts library orientation.
    • Conducts e-resources training and answers queries when necessary.
    • Assist in providing information dissemination to all students and faculty.
    • Must be familiar with the operations of a print journals library: accessioning, listing new titles and articles, display, shelving, and sorting out journals for binding.

    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    • Must be a holder of a Degree in Library Information Studies,
    • Must be conversant with LC Classification system and Koha Library System.
    • Must be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office Tools

    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    • Ability to organize and prioritize own work activities within established guidelines with minimal supervision.
    • Ability to have a professional and service oriented relationships with College staff, students, alumni, users from other Higher Education Institutions and registered members of the public.

    College Nurse

    DEPARTMENT: Dean of Students
    REPORTS TO: Dean of Students
    EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Contract

    POSITION SUMMARY

    Provide Health services to students when they are at the University. Promote health related habits and ensure compliance with national and local health policies for higher learning institutions.

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Detailed JD will be given on appointment)

    • Offer medical services to the students and staff of the college.
    • Assess patients’ health problems, provide appropriate medical solutions and prepare medical records in accordance with standards of professional practice.
    • Refer more serious cases to higher level medical facilities without delay.
    • Advice Tangaza on the kind and quality of medicine required from time to time.
    • Assist in preparing the budget of the facility and medicine to be approved by the relevant authorities in Tangaza.
    • Advice the college on any additional equipment that may be required according to the increasing needs.
    • Responsible for good storage and safe keeping of medicine and other medical equipment.
    • Responsible for organizing the facility and creating an acceptable environment for good medical services.
    • Assist in coordinating health insurance policies for Tangaza students
    • Any other duties that may be assigned and required of him/her by the Dean of Students.

    ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Diploma in nursing, KRN/ KRCHN.
    • 3 years’ experience preferably in an institution of higher learning.
    • Registered under the nursing council of Kenya with a valid practicing license.

    SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

    • Demonstrate understanding, knowledge, accountability and responsibility of the legal obligations for nursing practice.
    • Empathetic and caring.
    • Attention to detail and a critical thinker.
    • Proactive especially in cases requiring urgent referral.
    • Ability to communicate effectively.
    • Demonstrate and maintain ethical nursing practice.
