    Clerk (Community Interviewer) KMR 10 – (20 positions)

    Program description; This program is a collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute, the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, and other organizations and donors. It involves conducting research and programmatic support for activities related to Malaria, HIV, Tuberculosis and other diseases.
    It is in this mandate that the program is seeking a highly motivated and pro-active individual to fill in the following vacancy in the Post-introduction Pharmacovigilance of COVID-19 Vaccines Study within the DGHP Branch.

    Location: Kisumu (Manyatta)
    Reports to: Field Supervisor

    Essential Requirements:

    1. Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (Grade D plus).
    2. Certificate in computer packages
    3. Must be residents of the study sites
    4. Good command of Luo, English, Swahili languages is required
    5. Have at least one year experience in collection of epidemiological and demographic data

    Desired Skills, Competences & Abilities

    1. Field data collection
    2. Good interpersonal communication skills
    3. Demonstrated ability to work independently and proactively
    4. High level of attention to detail in data management

    SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Collect demographic and morbidity data from study participants according to GCP standards using netbooks or tablets
    2. Ensure that all the study questionnaires are completely filled during the interview
    3. Resolve all forms with discrepancies and keep good documentation of work done.
    4. Attend all weekly meetings in time and report on progress of work
    5. Be courteous, respectful, proactive, conscientious, punctual and hardworking

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    Employment is three months (3) contract. Salary is negotiable within the appropriate KEMRI salary scale depending on education, experience and demonstrated competency.

    Research Administrator (9 positions)

    Location: Kisumu
    Reports to: Principal Investigator

    Essential Requirements:

    1. Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: - Social Science, Applied Sciences, Education,
    2. Public Health, or related field from a recognized institution
    3. Proficiency in the use of computers.
    4. Experience in field management of surveys
    5. Fulfill the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution

    Desired Skills, Competences & Abilities

    1. Qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis
    2. Good interpersonal communication skills
    3. Demonstrated ability to work independently and proactively
    4. High level of attention to detail in data management
    5. Ability to multitask and prioritize duties

    SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Organizing and supervising the implementation of assigned field activities and related support duties
    • Preparing and submitting reports on study status and deliverables
    • Developing and designing local training and capacity building in collaboration with the study investigators
    • Under minimal direction, coordinating a wide range of research procedures and conducting a varietyof complex tasks determined by the field and scope of the study 
    • Working as part of a team in contributing to the analysis of results under the direction of the project PI and data team, collating, managing data during data collection periods (monthly) and providing
    • quality assurance/quality control
    • Coordinating and carrying out designated research tasks, making use of selected methodology and materials, desk research, statistical analysis, or other investigative techniques
    • Support the submission of periodic reports of project status to the PI, regularly suggesting additional tests or modifications in current procedures

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    Employment is three months (3) contract. Salary is as per the stated salary scale.

    Research Internships

    The Kenya Medical Research Institute is committed to providing the youth with opportunities to acquire, sharpen their knowledge and gain technical/practical skills to complement their studies in order to enhance their employability in line with the Kenya Vision 2030. The KEMRI internship program (KIP) seeks to develop a pool of young talent adequately exposed to working in the research industry. After the planned twelve(12) months (Non-renewable) internship program, the candidates will have gained practical workplace experience to enable them to have a competitive edge in their job search.

    Positions: Four (4)

    Reporting: Principal investigator

    Requirements

    A Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Sciences, Public Health, Epidemiology, Community Health, Microbiology or any other human health science related field from a recognised university.

    The successful individuals will be attached to “Evidence synthesis for building the translation pipeline to eliminate infectious diseases” project.

    Terms of Engagement:

    Applicants should be below thirty (30) years of age. Appointment in the Internship program will be for a period of twelve (12) months. The successful candidate (s) will be paid a monthly stipend without any other benefits. Interns will be expected to take up a personal accident cover and medical Insurance cover for the period of internship
