    Communications Intern

    Responsibilities

    The intern will be expected to: 

    • Assist in the development of communication materials, including media packages, fact sheets and social media content 
    • Support the country office in the production and finalisation of communications products 
    • Produce content for use for country’s influencing 
    • Conduct research on key regional issues and compile reports for internal use 
    • Support the planning and implementation of communication campaigns and events 
    • Monitor media coverage and social media trends relevant to Kenya 
    • Assist in the maintenance of the country office online presence, including the website and social media accounts 
    • Travel to field locations in Kenya for content gathering (video, photo and text) 
    • As part of the internship, the intern will be expected to undergo in-house training in NRC’s branding and house style, digital asset systems, ethics, and other relevant areas 

    Qualifications

    • Currently enrolled in final year or recently graduated (past 18 months) with a Degree in Communications, Journalism, International Relations, or a related field.  

    Skills and Experience 

    • Excellent English writing skills and attention to detail 
    • Sound photography and filming skills 
    • Knowledge of digital storytelling techniques 
    • Knowledge of and interest in regional humanitarian issues  
    • Experience in using social media for advocacy and outreach 
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite (photo, audio and video editing, and design)

    Admin Intern- Kakuma

    Responsibilities

    • These responsibilities shall be adapted to the particularities of the job location and context, phase of operation, strategic focus, and type of programme intervention.
    • Supervise the day-to-day work of the cleaners, and casual staff 
    • File administrative documents according to procedures 
    • Ensure that utility bills (e.g. electricity, water, phone) are paid on time 
    • Oversee the maintenance and cleanliness in all office interiors and advise the cleaners accordingly. 
    • Assist in any administrative matters: filing, typing, updating phone lists, keeping adequate stationery supplies for office consumption.
    • Assist in maintaining inventory of office equipment, furniture and fittings
    • Arrange for internal/external conferences and workshops
    • Ensure order and cleanliness of the offices and accommodation facilities including arranging for general maintenance as needed.
    • Arrange for staff flight bookings, transport, and accommodations in coordination with other NRC offices. 
    • Arrange for staff and visitors’ accommodation, filling in check-in, and follow up with payments.
    • Ensure NRC assets are in good condition and monitor maintenance if required and Proper filling of assets related documents (Equipment check in –check out, Waybill, Donation certificate, Asset transfer form, etc.)
    • Maintain custody of the office keys 
    • Any other duty assigned by line manager.

    Qualifications

    • Hold a Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Business Administration or any other relevant undergraduate qualification
    • No work experience is required
    • Well organized, efficient, hard-working
    • Proactive and organized
    • Ability to commence work immediately.

    Durable Solution Project Assistant

    Specific responsibilities 

    • Implementation of projects focussed on self-reliance, legal protection and durable solutions targeting both refugees and host communities.
    • Day-to-day project implementation at field level in developing clear work plans and targets and following up on implementation and engage in regular performance monitoring of projects.
    • Contribute to the development of either monthly, quarterly, annual or status reports including monthly monitoring and evaluation updates
    • Quality programming, identifying key areas for further follow up, devising strategies and supporting implementation to improve and monitor quality in NRC’s approaches.
    • Meaningfully engaging project participants to ensure their views inform the design and implementation of NRC’s responses.
    • Conduct project specific technical assessments and research, present recommendations and adapt programme implementation to needs and context.
    • Actively participate in relevant coordination forums including camp level protection, child protection, sexual and gender-based violence, shelter and livelihood working groups and county coordination forums.
    • In consultation with the ICLA Specialist, deliver technical training to stakeholders.
    • Implement approaches that promote safe and inclusive programming (SIP) and protection mainstreaming.  
    • Participate in the area level coordination meetings including the monthly programme meetings.
    • Promote project visibility through preparing and document success stories, human interest stories, or photos 
    • Any other tasks assigned by your line-manager; the Programme Manager. 

    Qualifications

    • University degree in law, political science, social science or other relevant discipline. Diploma with relevant experience will be considered. 
    • Relevant experience in humanitarian settings, especially protracted crisis
    • Good understanding of refugee situation in Kenya
    • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience within field of expertise
    • 2 years of experience managing legal protection/durable solutions projects in complex and volatile contexts
    • Familiarity with international refugee law and human rights law. 
    • Knowledge of SPHERE standards and other global humanitarian and protection standards
    • Previous experience from working 
    • Documented technical competences related to the position’s responsibilities
    • Experience in proposal and report writing and excellent computer skills
